What are some good colleges for Computer Science and Business?

Currently have like a 2.7 gpa. Don't worry im stepping it up. I'm hoping to get like a 3.8gpa this year and senior year. Hopefully I can bump that up a bit. Hopefully to like 3.5 if I can.... I hate standardized tests and stuff like that so I probably will do bad on the ACT. I need some help. I'm in low level classes currently in HS. But I am taking AP computer science next semester. Hopefully senior year I can fit in College accounting... What are some good colleges for me. Remember Im in low level classes if that makes a big difference. I will meet all the requirements though. Im taking 2 years of Italian. I have a semester of ART classes. I want to major in Computer Science/ Information Systems Or Business. Accounting or anything in Business. What are the best Computer Science or Business schools for the b student? or the low level student.

BTW
I am involved in some clubs & sports.
1 year football athlete frosh year, going to do it senior year as well.
About to be a four year track athlete after next year.
Starting DECA(Business club) this year hopefully going to continue all the way to Senior year.

What state are you in? Your state schools may be your best options.

What is your budget?

From your own words, it doesn’t sound like you’ll have the stats for the schools that give the best need-based aid or merit scholarships. However, if you’re low income and you live in a state that gives good need-based grants, then a state school may be your best option.

However, if your parents will pay for wherever you go, you may have more options.

What is your situation?

I am in Illinois. U of I is a very hard to get in… ISU idk about their programs… Money will be fine. I’m going to take out a loan and I will be applying for grants and other financial aid.

*Money will be fine. I’m going to take out a loan and I will be applying for grants and other financial aid. *

I think you need to learn about financial aid.

1) YOU can only borrow the following amounts…

5500 frosh
6500 soph
7500 jr
7500 sr

To borrow more than that requires qualified co-signers…and borrowing more isn’t really advisable since larger amounts are harder to pay back.

2) As an OOS student, you might qualify for a Pell Grant if you’re low income. Are you low income? A Pell grant is up to $5550 per year.

3) You have to QUALIFY for financial aid based on your parents income and assets. Do you know if you’d qualify?

4) Most schools do not meet need.

So, at this point, it does not sound like you can say, “Money will be fine.”

Will your family be contributing anything? Are they low income?

Illinois State would be fine. State Farm and Cat hire lots of ISU comp sci/MIS majors into their IT departments.

if you do get your GPA up, you might try University of Minnesota -Morris. Good computer science and very inexpensive.

Yes I am low income. But I thought if I get a student loan and after college is over. Hopefully within after college is over I find a job so I can pay off my loan… I will be working to get money for college. I can also apply for scholarships. BTW Thanks haystack!!!

Bump…
Bump…

I’m not sure what you are looking for here…you have a lowish GPA and said that you think you will not do well on the ACT. Your choices will be limited but you will still have good choices. I would concentrate on the Illinois state schools…SIU (either campus), WIU, ISU. They all have perfectly adequate CS programs. These make the most sense given your grade/ACT constraints and, I think, financial constraints.

OOS schools with low tuition and COA include South Dakota State, U of SD, Bemidji State (MN).

*Yes I am low income. But I thought if I get a student loan *

As you can see above, you can’t borrow much.

Don’t bother with most OOS publics, they won’t be affordable.

Be sure to apply to at least one local instate public that you could commute to…I don’t know if Ill has state grants to help with costs. You don’t want to end up with a bunch of unaffordable schools…you can’t borrow much.

If only your scores were higher! Compsci and business just scream Carnegie mellon. Chance me?

Carnegie Mellon CS or business are out of reach for the OP’s 2.7 GPA.

forget about the 2.7 gpa. That’s going away. Imagine if it’s a 3.5 gpa. Which it will be because when I put in hard work, I can do anything.

So imagine if I had a 3.5gpa… I’m considering about going to ISU. Thanks mom2collegekids for all your help.

For now I just want school names.

bumppppppppp

We seem to have much in common, including major. I go to the University of Oregon and wouldn’t have it any other way. PM me if you have questions.

If you can get your GPA up, SUNY Binghamton.

I got a 3.5gpa is that not alright?

Bump!!!111
