I'm stuck after typing in my name and title. I already know what I'm going to write about, but I just can't seem to find a way to start it off without its seeming like another average essay.

Any tips?

I'm stuck after typing in my name and title. I already know what I'm going to write about, but I just can't seem to find a way to start it off without its seeming like another average essay.

Any tips?

Just start writing it. If you already know what it's about just write about that thing and don't worry about the opening. In creative writing classes they tell you all the time to just start the story. After you have a rough draft of it, pick somewhere in the middle and make that the beginning. People tend to write their way into the heart of the matter. Only after you have gotten yourself there --to the heart of it-- can you lop off the early warm-up writing and go straight to the point that is deeper, smarter, and has more of a "grab."

Try to think of a story to tell. These are the best essays because they are fun to read and stand out. Don't worry about being "serious" or telling them about how wonderful you are....they read 1000's of these essays. Be funny, tell a story, and make them remember you because of your PERSONALITY. They have plenty of information about you academically and extracurricularly in the rest of the application, so use this as your time to shine as a person. Just have fun with it!

RW

In addition, make sure YOU are included. I saw another post about someone who was going to argue against a govt health system. While fine for Govt class, not good for a college essay where the readers are looking to know more about YOU, not your ability to argue a position. Best of luck to you
