I'm a High School Junior looking into colleges and hoping to get some help from those who know the admissions game better than I do.

I'm not sure what I want to major in yet but I've pretty much narrowed myself down to three choices: Sports Journalism, some form of Business or Screenwriting.

Here's some of my info:

GPA: 3.0 (about 80 as a number, weighted and unweighted)

SAT: I got 1620 the first time I took it, but that was with absolutely no review besides a PSAT I took over a year prior to the test. With review next time I expect to score somewhere from 1700 to 1850.

Rank: N/A

No honors or APs.

ECs:

4-year member of Stock Market Club (will be club President or VP as Senior, was Junior board member as Junior)

3-year member of DECA (a America-wide business club for those who don't know)

Job

High School MBA (Mastery in Business)

I'm from New York and would like to stay on the East Coast. My dream school would be U of Maryland or Penn State, do I have any chance at all?

I know my grades aren't great, so could somebody please give me a list of some of the best schools that I would have a chance of getting into? I'd like to go to a big name school and preferably one with a well-known Division I basketball/football team, but it's obviously not a necessity.

Thank you, I’m now going to look into Temple and Drexel, the reason I re-posted is that I’m looking for a longer list of ideas since I don’t know that many schools.

If you decide on what major you want when you apply, you EC’s will help you a lot. EC’s like you have are exactly what colleges are looking for. It shows you have accomplished something in the field you are interested in.

My grades weren’t all that great, and I applied to pennstate this year. I had a 3.2 UW and a 3.4 W. 2000 on SAT, and I got into penn state with a generous scholarship.

Definetely express your passion in the field that you want to pursue in, i know for a fact Pennstate asks for that in your essay.
