Chance Me Please, will chance back

What's up guys? I'm a High School Senior in an average Long Island Public School. I'm looking to probably major in either sports journalism or business.

My (weighted and unweighted) GPA for my first three years is 80.6 (my school does GPA out of 100), with a slight upward trend Junior Year.

I've never taken an AP or Honors class.

My SAT score is 1840. (1180/1600)

My school doesn't rank.

I have pretty good and unique ECS:

4-year member of stock market club (Co-President senior year)

High School MBA

Financial Literacy

Job

3-year member of DECA (business club)

Founder and President of my own club

Featured Columnist at bleacherreport.com for parts of 3 years (it's the third most visited sports website on the internet, I've had articles featured on sportsillustrated.com, cracked.com, brobile.com, seattlepi.com, the Houston Chronicle, the San Francisco Gate and many more. I've also had 3 articles top 75k reads, 12 more top 25k reads, 16 more top 10k reads. I've had my article as the featured article on the site's front page 88 times. I also covered the 2011 NFL Draft for the website.)

I have good essays and recommendations.

Here are the schools I'm looking at right now in no particular order. I'm trying to narrow it down:

Syracuse
Temple
Michigan State
UMASS-Amherst
SUNY Oswego
Hofstra
Pace
Iona
Seton Hall
Saint Joseph's (Philly)
American
Stony Brook

What do you think my chances are? Thanks in advance, will chance back.

Your stats are alright for those schools so match for all of them- good luck! please chance me back  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1423204-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

bump .

bump .

To be honest. It all depends on how much the school like you with the whole writing thing. You’re avg really does hurt you though for those upper teir schools

That average…

Honestly though, it’s not that bad, I’ve seen much worse. You have a good chance to get into every one of these schools. SATs aren’t bad at all either. The lack of APs and Honors will hurt, but with a lot of these schools it shouldn’t kill you.

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1423447-chance-optimistic-senior-i-will-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

I think you can get into those schools. I am unsure about the uniqueness factor in your ECs but I think that may be because 4H is a huge thing in my area. Did you just choose not to take AP courses? Did you know you could take the tests without the class? Please chance me back. I need it.

bump .

Your ECs are impressive. You should definetely mention them for a school like Syracuse. Your SATs are good but your GPA is kind of low, like a 2.7 i’m calculating.

For the ones I know
Syracuse- I’m calling this a reach based on your GPA but with your ECs who knows.
Temple- Match-High Match
UMASS-Amherst- High Match
American- Reach
Stony Brook- High Match

Chance me?

Syracuse - High match
Temple
Michigan State - Low Match
UMASS-Amherst - Match/High match
Hofstra -Match
Pace - Low Match
Iona -Match
Seton Hall - Low Match
American - Reach
Stony Brook - Reach

chance me back!

bump .

Syracuse: Reach
Temple: Low Reach/ High Match
Michigan State: Low Reach/ High Match
UMASS: High Reach
SUNY-Oswego: Low Reach/ High Match
Hofstra University: High Match
Pace: High Match
Iona: Match
Seton Hall: High Match
Saint Joseph’s (Philly): Match
American: High Reach
Stony Brook: High Reach

Unfortunately, your GPA translates to a 2.7 on the college’s scale so that knocks you into the reach range for a lot of the schools. You SATs are pretty good. Your EC’s are great. The fact that you don’t have any APs or honors will REALLY, REALLY hurt you. Especially since you have a 2.7 GPA. To a lot of colleges if you don’t have AP/ Honors courses then you should have a GPA in the 3.5-4.0 range. I think you have a good shot for Iona and Saint Joseph’s though. Good luck! Sorry if this sounded kind of harsh. I’m just trying to be realistic and helpful.

All of those schools are matches.

I chance people on a number scale; 1(low chance) - 10 (high chance)
Syracuse 7
Temple - not familiar w school
Michigan State - not familiar
UMASS-Amherst - 8/9
SUNY Oswego - 6-8
Hofstra - 9
Pace - 9
Iona - not familiar
Seton Hall - not familiar
Saint Joseph’s (Philly) - 6/7
American 8
Stony Brook 6-8

Your work and ECs definitely reflect your inner journalist, make sure to emphasize that as your passion or something; getting work published is a big thing!

All of your target schools are matches and even high matches if you fully utilize your impressive ECs.

Syracuse - match
Temple - match
Michigan State - low match
UMASS-Amherst - match
Seton Hall - low match
American - low reach
Stony Brook - reach

You seem like an average candidate, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but you won’t stand out too much. If you were to retake the SAT and score 2000+, you would have a much better shot at a majority of those schools, although you already have a decent chance already. Good luck.
