Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the National Panhellic Sororities have houses?

Xcollegexboundx, why don’t you start a new thread to get the information you’re looking for?

Yes, 15 of 16 Panhellenic Association national sororities have houses. I also posted on the other thread, but this is a sticky thread so I figured I would post again.

I’m not going to FSU (yet), but as someone who lives in town and regularly goes near the campus, there’s plenty:

-Strozier Library (“Stro”) - an excellent research library complete with a variety of detailed research materials, and a starbucks.

-National High Magnetic Field Library. If you are an intellectual curious about scientific research, this is the go-to place in town.

-Campus entertainment options include regular movie showings (free for students), among them regular campus-approved Rocky Horror showings

-If you’re the nerdy type and like comics/sci-fi/cartoons/video games/that sort of thing, there’s FreeCon. Or if you’re not a nerd then you can go there to amuse yourself by staring at the people in funny costumes.

-Club Down Under and The Union Green always have good events. Down Under has had artists from Girl Talk to She Wants Revenge play there over the past few years - and the place is just a walk away from class

-As most of these people already said, the Tennessee Strip. Most of the area is pretty sketchy, but there’s much to be said for the nightlife. (PS check out the new Retro Night at Red Rock’s )

-If you’re the arty/alternative type, Railroad Square and its First Friday art showcase walk is just a few paces away from the Diffenbaugh building.

So, to wrap that up, FSU’s facilities are amazing and the surrounding area provides entertainment options for everyone from nerdy to normal, artsy to mainstream.
And I can assure you that FSU students are friendly, intellectual, and like to party - not necessarily in that order or all at once, but all are very pleasant people to know and many are a cut above in some way.

My FSU graduate degree helped me get an excellent job. I have worked in state government and am now working for a very large corporation that allows me to telecommute part of the time. I make a good salary. If you choose the right major at FSU, the job market is great.

With that said, I am continuing my graduate studies at UF. I don’t really get caught up with the FSU-UF rivalry since I was born in the Pac 12 region. I did enjoy watching Urban Meyer’s last game. I also enjoyed watching FSU beat Miami in basketball some years back when I drove to Coral Gables and back the same day from Tallahassee just to watch the game. The only thing both UF and FSU are missing out on is collegiate wrestling. The state has a lot of wrestling talent, but they have to go out-of-state for college scholarships. Wrestling is harder than football. Herschel Walker admitted it when he tried Mixed Martial Arts. TUF 13 showed former football players getting beat badly in MMA/UFC. But if UF or FSU had collegiate wrestling, they could have great UFC fighters (in my opinion) and national champions. The wrestling talent is in the state.

My home region of the Pac-12 has the current UFC champion - Cain Velasquez from ASU. This guy could beat any football player from Miami, FSU, or UF in an MMA fight (yes, even Tebow). But if UF or FSU had collegiate wrestling, they could produce a UFC champion. Right now it’s just not realistic. Football success doesn’t translate to MMA championships.

I’ve been a gator my whole life, and still am.
But posts like this have me dying to be a Seminole, I love the atmosphere at FSU, it’s my dream school. I have a week or two to go before I get my decision. I’d choose attending FSU over UF any day over anything. =/

So you think FSU is better then UF ?

It is sad that FSU posters spend so much time and energy to compare themselves to UF . Both universities are excellent and it does not really matter which one you go both offer top quality education… except I would be hesitant to go to the place where inferiority complex consumes so much time.

^And you’re here posting because…

Curiously, the vast number of ■■■■■ posts are from UF fans in the FSU area. If there is a feeling of inferiority at work it is elsewhere.

telecom- My experience has been completely the opposite of your observation. UF supporters feigning superiority seem much more prevalent to me.

ironically UF seems to have started the flaming war against FSU. telecom, you are an example - we have not really discussed opinions about UF in this thread, only facts.

one thing i can’t wait to do at FSU is get involved into sports, clubs, the all! i’ll basically be living at the rec center.

I do see some posts regarding FSUs “prestige” relative to UF, but these seem to be coming from people who are still deciding which school to apply to rather than current FSU students.

Every state in the union has a certain amount of rivalry between its “XYZ State University” and its “University of XYZ.”

At telecom, People are just saying how they feel about FSU and they’re just stating their pride. Some people are even asking questions about the two different schools. I understand your statement but, Not to be rude but if it bothers you , why sit here and comment on the post?

The time I spent at FSU were the best years of my life. You will meet the greatest people in the world and make some of the best friends that you will keep for a lifetime. There is something for everyone at FSU. Tallahassee is also very welcoming and exciting. From beautiful outdoor parks to fantastic local restaurants. You will love it!

I used to want to go to UF but after visiting the FSU campus this past April I fell in love lol and I really hope I get in!

Hey and sunnyinflorida (or any other FSU students), how are FSUs International Relations, Mass Media/Journalism and business courses? I mean, a tour and the Internet can tell you what they have, but not what the experience is like!

A great program FSU has is the first year abroad program. You can study in Spain or Italy your first year, and if you can maintain a 3.0 GPA that year, you come back as a full solophomore, and if you are out of state, you qualify for instate tuiltion for the rest of your undergraduate years.

Wow. That IS nice. They really give you in-state after tuition a year abroad?

They do. It’s likely because the First Year Abroad program costs a pretty penny. It’s around $40k for Italy or Spain.

Granted, out-of-state costs for FSU top $30k I believe, so it’s not horrible, but it’s still pretty high.

I went here as a transfer student.
The counseling center was great at the university. The professors and advisors I met with were always so understanding which were the best things for me.
The campus area is pretty! … but outside of that it’s a dump :/. It was convenient having everything nearby, but it still is just a taint town outside of the campus area. I lived both on campus and off…it’s a very different vibe once you extend outside of the pretty main campus. This is just my personal opinion and what I personally experienced. Take it with a grain of salt.
I highly recommend visiting Tallahassee and forming your own opinions though before anyone decides to accept.
