GPA 3.55
SAT Writing 680, Math 590, Reading 560
International student, studying in an American high school (don't know if that matters at all)
Would like to go to a college that has:

good school spirit

isn't too big

is quite strong in academics, despite

if big, maybe has a strong sense of community

(Not trying to be difficult, but if some of these criteria are met, then yay for me.)

Your own guidance counselor should be able to help you with this. What is your current visa status? Will you need to get an F1 or can you stay in your current status while you study? Admission is tougher internationals than for US students. If your GC tells you that college X would be a safety for a US student with your stats, it is more likely to be a match for you.

of course. i’m looking for affordable safeties. and i know what limits my choices, thus i’m looking for ‘safeties’, those that are not very selective.

How are we supposed to know what your family considers to be “affordable safeties” when you haven’t told us how much they’ll spend? If they’ll only spend 20k per year then suggestions will be very different than if they say that they’ll pay $55k per year.

In response to mom2collegekids: these colleges love internationals. The SAT isnt even required for Northeastern International applicants whilst the two other schools give heavy preference to International students to promote diversity. However, some other recommendations are: University of San Francisco, Arizona State U (maybe?).

I appreciate your attention to details. But I was really asking for generally affordable colleges. Affordable yet good schools. And I don’t think 55K per year falls under affordable options. But thanks!

check state flagships for school spirit; but generally people care about any D1 sports program which fosters spirit. Probably on the big side tho

* Affordable yet good schools. And I don’t think 55K per year falls under affordable options. But thanks!*

how hard is it for you to answer the very basic question as to what IS affordable for your family? Please give us a dollar amount… $25k per year? more? less? WHAT??

Maybe South Dakota State University? About $16,000 per year for (out-of-state) tuition, (cheapest) room, board, and books (need to add travel), has a nutrition and food science major, and has about 11,000 undergraduates.
