Hi, I’m at the stage of senior year where I have to do my applications and I’m getting scared just looking at the list of schools. I currently have a 3.73 weighted UC GPA and 3.5 unweighted. I took the ACT yesterday, and I’m expecting to get a 30-32. What UC schools can I reasonably get into? and if not is cal poly slo a reasonable school for me? I am intending on going into business/econ major.
I have hardly any extra curricular activities.
my gpa freshman year was a 2.8 soph year 3.3 jr year 4.2
I have a great upward trend on my grades, and I had a reality check half way into highschool which made me try way harder. This last summer I maintained a job, took 2 community college classes ( Micro Econ and Poly Sci) as well as 2 summer school classes ( Art and Creative Writing) and ACT prep class. I’m trying my best to make up for how hard I slacked earlier in highschool, and I am honestly just wondering where I can go with what I have now.
Thank you so much for reading this, and any feedback would be great thanks!
just wanted to add I am instate california resident, and that I know Berkley SD and LA are way out of reach just wanted to know out of all of them what a good match for me would be
if you can get a 31+ I’d say you’d get into at least 1 of the mid-tier UCs/Cal Poly SLO. I think anything above 30+ will put you in very good standing for any other state school and UCM/UCR/UCSC.
Cal poly SLO uses 9-11th grades so you need to recalculate your UC GPA inputting you Freshman grades.
Since you had a 2.8 GPA Freshman year, this will impact your CP GPA, so SLO will probably be a Low Reach even with an ACT of 30-32.
Your UC GPA is below average for all the UC’s except UCSC/UCR/UCM so I would put these as your target schools. UCR has an exceptional Business School/programs so definitely worth consideration. The Mid-tier UC’s will probably a Low Reach but if you have strong essays, they could help your chances so worth applying.
For Cal States, consider SDSU, CSUF and CSUN since their business programs are excellent.
Good Luck.
I’d encourage you to apply to most of the UCs. Your GPA progress a 31 ACT and a compelling essay may well get you into a mid tier campus (UCD/UCI/UCSB). You are a stronger candidate for UCM,UCR and UCSC.
I’d add Long Beach to the list of CSUs above.
Good luck.
Apply to UCs, you’ll surely qualify for a few. I would include UCSD as a reach.
You can also apply to SDSU as a safety. You could add URedlands and St Mary’s of California.
