What are the benefits of taking AP tests if they aren't related to your major?

I am signed up for 5 AP tests this year, including the AP US Govt/Pol and AP Macroeconomics ones. The college I will be attending in the fall accepts these tests for credit, but I wouldn’t be able to use these tests to skip any classes (I don’t think) since I am a biology major on the premed track. Is there any benefit to even taking these tests? I don’t feel super prepared for the AP macroeconomics one, but it is my only test the second week so I would have some time to prepare.

Each UC will handle the AP credit differently so I would check the specific UC campuses’ policy first before deciding.

So if they will only give subject credit and not course credit, then it is your decision to take it or not take.

Some colleges have general education requirements that must be taken regardless of major. AP credits can be used to fulfill those classes at many colleges.

AP credit cannot be used for GE’s at several of the UC’s, so checking each school’s AP credit policy is important.
