Hi I was wondering what are the best colleges that a community college transfer student can attend? I go to a community college in Los Angeles and I joined my school's scholars program which is suppose to give students a better chance at a high ranked college. Apparently since I am a California resident, have a 4.0 GPA, and part of the scholars program, I have a high chance at UC Berkeley. However I would also like to apply to top colleges out of state. Which schools would I be good for outside of state?

One community college student transferred to Yale this year.

Half of Stanford’s transfer admits, usually, are community college students.

Define “best.”

Cornell; Vassar; Grinnell. Wellesley, Mt. Holyoke. There are a whole bunch of schools that accept transfers from community colleges. Probably the best approach is to think about what you want from a school, find that school, then look at their transfer policies. It’s okay to call or email an admissions officer to ask about your circumstances. They generally will be forthcoming about CC applicants’ chances. In addition, if you go to a website called c o l l e g e d a t a you can find all kinds of hard data about admissions, debt rates, etc for various schools that may help guide your deciison

This is a very vague question. I’m not aware of any colleges that -won’t- accept community college transfer students. Community college students regularly transfer to all of the ‘top’ schools. It’s obviously more common for transfer students to transfer to state universities, but they can also transfer to MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and anywhere else.

Princeton does not accept except at the Freshman level. You could try Harvard, MIT, Yale, Stanford, …

Princeton does not admit any transfer students at all. The military service academies do not admit any transfer students either, but applicants with college credit who are otherwise eligible may apply for frosh admissions.

But, yes, private schools like Stanford and USC do accept transfer students from community colleges.

That’s right, I recall reading that about Princeton before. That’s a bit odd.
