So I know the frats at princeton are underground but what are they like? Is it hard to get into a frat? Also, once you are in, what do the frats do? For example, do they take the place of eating clubs for frosh and first semester sophs? Do the students in the frats go out on weekends together??
Thanks, just looking for some good info on them

The Greek system isn’t recognized by the university, but it’s hardly underground. Frats and sororities serve as a social center for freshman and first semester sophomores, with members typically becoming much less active after joining an eating club the second semester of their sophomore year. (Some frats/sororities are known to “feed” into certain eating clubs.)

Their most visible social function is as a group of people with whom to pregame. Typically, frats, sororities, and sports teams will get together earlier in the evening (10ish) on a party night (Thursday/Saturday) and pregame with hard liquor (which isn’t available on the Street) and beer until the Street gets going. At that point, the party moves to various eating clubs.

Hope that helped. I’m just a freshman, but that’s what’s been happening during orientation.

So what else is there for a new FM to do if they don’t want to drink? Especially now so early in the year.

Anything and everything. Free movies at the Garden Theatre Thurs, Fri, and Sat; climbing wall; go out and don’t drink (I know many people who do this); hang out with friends. Whatever.
