What are the rules on dorm visitors at SVU?

(Southern Virginia University) I’m going to SVU and my boyfriend only lives two hours away so every other weekend he was gonna drive up and stay for a day or two. How strict are the rules on opposite sex in dorm rooms?? Are the rules enforced or are they pretty chill about it?

The school’s website can answer that better than we can. Your roommate gets to have an opinion as well. She’s paying for a place to sleep every weekend and might want to actually sleep there.

@Courtneyj135 as KKmama said, you’ll probably get a better answer by going to the school’s website on dorm policies. Alternatively, there are many sub-forums for particular colleges/universities.

If you have a roommate, you should make sure she is okay with it. Even if you don’t have a roommate, it is still courteous to let your suitemates or hallmates know that someone you know is staying over, and make sure they’re fine with it. From my experience, I’ve hosted several people in my dorm room before (for events or other things) and usually people are pretty chill about it.

Seems to me that it is not officially allowed. I am sure you know that this was an all girls school until the 90’s and is Mormon affiliated so count on them being strict. They even say that boys can’t even go into girls room (and visa versa) so it would be a no go on staying overnight. I would find a guy friend with whom your boyfriend can sleep in his dorm room as a back up plan.

With prior approval of the resident advisor, and full agreement on the part of all roommates, students may occasionally host guests of the same gender who are at least 16 years of age. The first two nights are free of charge, provided the proper paperwork has been completed with the resident advisor (RA) of the host student. Each additional night is $25 (to be paid in advance). Guests may stay no more than one week, and may be asked to leave by the head resident advisor if their presence in any way disrupts the campus environment.

Parents and siblings younger than 16 years of age may not stay in campus housing. Hotels are available in Buena Vista and Lexington for those needing accommodations.

Guests are the responsibility of the host student and must comply with the Code of Honor, Dress and Grooming Standards, Residential Living Policies, and other rules and regulations of the university. The host student is accountable for the guest’s actions and behavior while on-campus. Guests pay for meals eaten in the Dining Hall.

No curfew exists on the Southern Virginia University campus. However, common-use areas of residence halls and houses have visiting hours that must be strictly observed. Men and women may visit each other, remaining in common-use areas, as long as they abide by the residential hall’s visitation hours.

An individual does not enter the bedroom or sleeping area of a person of the opposite gender, without prior permission of the head resident advisor. Likewise, an individual does not permit the entry of a person of the opposite gender into his/her bedroom or sleeping area without prior permission of the head resident advisor.

An example of a non-religious public schools guest policy is:
Overnight guests are permitted for a maximum of three consecutive nights with the written approval of all roommate(s)/suitemates/apartment and floormates

Also the Honor Code includes Chastity:

http://svu.edu/campus-life/lds-environment/code-of-honor/

Chastity & Virtue
We behave in a chaste and virtuous manner, in accordance with the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We acknowledge that upholding the Dress and Grooming Standards and Residential Living Policies fosters virtuous living. In our efforts to become leader-servants, we refrain from acts of unchaste, sexually suggestive, immodest, or promiscuous behavior that detract from the Holy Spirit. We avoid entertainment that advocates immorality, profanity, or violence.

I’m not sure this is a real post – she would know she’s going to an LDS school, wouldn’t she?

In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories…dun dun

Actually, Law & Order SVU probably falls under “entertainment that advocates immorality, profanity, or violence.”

And yes, I wrote that from memory.
