I have been looking at the pre-screening and audition requirements for some colleges and have come across the phrase “one movement of a standard concerto.” What are the standard cello concertos?
Dvorak, Haydn numbers 1 and 2, Elgar, Shostakovich, Saint Saens, Lalo, Schumann, Boccherini concerto in B flat major, there may be a few more I’m not thinking of but I think this pretty much covers the standard ones to draw from.
Adding to cellomom 2’s list;
Prokofiev Concertante, Barber Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s Variations’s on a Rococo Theme.
My son’s doing Saint Saens and the Kodaly Sonata (along with Bach and Piatti).
It sounds like your son has a good program for auditions. My son is also applying for BM Cello performance.
Good luck to you and your son!
