What are the top advertising schools in the US?

I have come to find that I would like to major in advertising when I go to college. However, so far I have only come up with one university choice: Syracuse University. Please tell me some universities with a superior advertising program. Thank you so much!

Michigan State

Maybe University of Missouri-Columbia or Northwestern.

Boston University

Advertiisng can appear in several departments–journalism, business, communications. Wisconsin has highly regarded program in both areas–marketing research and advertising which can make a great dual major.

[UW-Madison School of Business - Marketing Department](http://www.bus.wisc.edu/marketing/default.asp)

[School of Journalism & Mass Communication | University of Wisconsin-Madison](http://www.journalism.wisc.edu/)

At Northwestern, the school of journalism and school of communications offer undergrad degree programs but there’s no advertising major. The closest thing is probably communications major.

There is Integrated Marketing Certificate (IMC) that’s open to all majors. [Medill - IMC Undergraduate Certificate](http://www.medill.northwestern.edu/imc/undergraduatecertificate.aspx)
Some IMC faculty have joint appointment with Kellogg, which is considered the best in the nation/world in marketing.

I’d like to be in the creative side of advertising. However I have heard that taking an advertising major covers both the communications side and the creative side of advertising. If I am wrong please tell me some universities with a major with a good creative side of advertising. Thanks!

A school can’t necessarily teach you how to be creative. They can bring out what’s already there. The best way to prepare for the conceptual side of advertising is to expose yourself to as much culture, history, thinking, etc. as possible.

If you’re looking for practical experience, I think Emerson has an inhouse advertising agency run by students.

Cornell has a communications department too. If you’re in state it’s a relative bargain.

Look into Miami Ad School. They receive the most awards and are ranked as the best ad school in the world.

“Cornell has a communications department too”-----heh? in what school at Cornell?

“Look into Miami Ad School. They receive the most awards and are ranked as the best ad school in the world”…source please?

to the OP: there are no rankings for this, but one needs to look not only at curriculum, but also at recruiting:that being said…

Northeast: Syracuse(Newhouse) and Boston University School of Communications (Ithaca College Park school as well with integrated marketing communications)

Southeast: University of Florida and University of Miami (Florida State also for its excellent recruiting and career center)

Midwest: Northwestern (IMC in the school of comm). UMissouri is excellent for journalism (UWisconsin, UMich for overall communications as well)

West: USC- Annenberg, UCLA

please chime in if I left any ones out that have the rep the OP is looking for…

to the OP: if one attends at top 20 school and majors in anything, but has connections in the industry, they have as good a chance at being hired as anyone else…
