Wisconsin is #11 in undergrad engineering. That's not too shabby. It's also top 10 in many other (by many, I'd imagine around 50) fields, both graduate and undergraduate.

uvajoe- you're obviously entitled to your opinion, and most people make the argument that Wisconsin shouldn't be on par with the top publics because of admission standards, although it's pretty similiar to Michigan and admissions is only one aspect to being a top school. The academic programs offered are top notch, and rankings do back it up. Socially can't be beat.

I think that everyone here is pretty much on par. I live in Wisconsin and I clearly agree that we have a top notch public unversity. I also concede that the admissions standards are not quite as rigorous but I can assure you that once in it is a very competitive school. Also, as was said, the social scene cannot be beat. My parents both graduated from UW and my father is a successful and happy man. Any school in the top 100 or so can provide you with a great education if you put the effort in.

Well you're probably right Transfer. Just shows my ignorance :)

good list people, but what are the top public universities that are not expensive, give academic scholarships, and have a minority department(this is very importnant for me bc if they don't have one then I proabably wont get into any college, and if I did get in my parents can't afford it)

It really depends on what you want to study. Although Arizona State University is "third tier" in the USNews and World Report...they are ranked #22 for their undergraduate business program. Many people would be better off going to ASU than to like Syracuse or Tulane, since those are ranked alot worse for Undergrad Business programs. I think TU and SU are ranked 50 or so for their business programs. The overall schools themselves though, are ranked alot better than ASU so it all depends on what you want to study. Overall though... (in my opinion)

Where would you guys put the University of Delaware?

Wow, completely forgot about UNC...I'll edit that post

Emperor, US NEws and World Report has Delaware at 26th. Although I disagree with that (I think they should be in the 40's-50's), take it for what it's worth. And again, it depends on your intended field of study.

Wow, thanks for your opinion.

Savan and King, you guys left out WM and Gatech.

uvajoe, I personally have GaTech around 12th or so.

nice list.

Thanks uvajoe. In my one to watch for category: UC Davis. I ranked it No. 10 and I think it will continue to rise. UCD's funding for research is at an all time high and UCD is just now moving to D1 athletics. Sounds like a stange reason to show growth, but moving D1 guarantees millions of dollars that UC Davis hasn't seen before (hello campus expansion, standium renovations, student funding, more research, etc.) Plus, Davis is the last true college town in California. W/O UC Davis, there wouldn't be Davis! The city has a great atmosphere. Well, that's it. In short: prepare for the rise of UCD.

Way to copy and paste...

Yea D1 should def. help bring in more mola, and that means of course....more funding...

What is the fight song of UCD anyways?

UCD fight song is Aggie Fight! (written by Larry Austin..if that helps.) I'll find a recording on the website. Here's the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh!:
