Just wanted to see what y'all would say. Post your favorite public schools and why. :)

I'm curious to know what the ivy kids think too. BUMP!

Oooh, maybe I didn't make myself clear. Anyone's welcome to post, actually :) But yeah, I'd like to hear from the elitists.

first-tier favorites: uc berkeley, ucla,

well... duh.

second-tier favorites: uva.

...only because my cousin went there.

i guess other notable publics include uiuc, ut-austin, unc, umich, etc but i really don't care about any of those.

Michigan - Great engineering (esp. aerospace) .... Ann arbor is a great college town ... Ross is one of the best business programs in the midwest

UNC Chapel Hill - Great for professional studies and the humanities ... Chapel hill is another great college town

UC berkeley - Great engineering (esp. chemical and Civil) .... their research spending has fallen a bit but its still quite high The Daily Californian - UC Berkeley's Research Spending Rank Tumbles The Haas business program is also very strong

All of these colleges have great sports scenes as well

I think UMass Amherst gets a bad rap. I know some brilliant kids headed there, and I know non-partiers there as well. If you utilize the school well, you can get a great education there.

isn't UMichigan obnoxiously expensive for out-of-staters?

"Ivy" kids?

I'm not one of them, but I can say that my favorite public school is Berkeley. I would've chosen it over HYP had I not also gotten into Stanford. It's an awesome school with a great history, top faculty, top students, top departments across the board; the campus is beautiful, the city of Berkeley is awesome (probably my favorite part of all), etc.

(But Stanford is better. :D)

UVA, UNC, some of the UCs, and of course, UT-AUSTINNN!!!!! I live 5 minutes from the campus. It kicks serious ass.

lol I thought Stanford was an Ivy :)

I don't go to an ivy but

Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, UNC, UVa

Yeah it's not an Ivy, but it's not public either, so it doesn't get to be in this discussion lol

I'm not an Ivy person. But, I'm a big supporter of public universities.

My favorites (besides my alma mater...;) ), in no particular order:

Wisconsin
Illinois
Michigan
Penn State
(heck all the Big Ten publics are excellent)
Texas
Washington
UC Davis
Florida

My least favorite public = UCLA (mainly for being totally unoriginal)

Going to add UCSD, third best UC.

Berkeley
UIUC
Wisconsin
Michigan
UCSD
............

Best Public Schools

UC's. Period.

UC Berkeley. Where else do they have one of the world's foremost neuroanatomists showing incoming freshman a human brain?

kyledavid, Stanford's pretty solid but don't you just wanna gouge your eyes out from boredom?

Ourlady.peace, Berkeley's solid as well. Would you wanna just go blow yourself up from all the hippies and liberal anti-Marine maniacs Berkeleys got for ya?
