What are they REALLY looking for?

This forum seems to be really hit and miss as far as admissions go, so what are they REALLY looking for? It obviously isn't the perfect person academically, so is it the guy that can really write a good essay, slam dunk an interview, or the guy who they really think cares about medicine, from the heart?

It's driving me nuts to the point that I really don't care about these programs anymore. They are basically going to be fun applications, as I just dont give a s-h-i-t.

Well, what I have gotten from the site:

Stats obviously do matter but only up to a point-- they don't care if you got a 2310 or a 2330

If you stats aren't totally amazing or near-perfect, write really, really good essays (at least that's what I'll be trying to do)

BUT: if you are lucky enough to be graciously given an interview, everyone is on the same page and stats do not matter at all at this point; you have to be able to do a great interview

If the inerview goes well, you're probably in

At least that is my opinion and outlook on these programs

I would say that they are looking for the person who really cares about medicine (they can see that). They want maturity and dedication...someone who will stay through medical school. Scores are just for the initial cut; true character gets you in.

ill tell u guys this in most of these programs....a good chunk apply and the way they weed most of the applicants out is simply by GPA/test scores...after that comes what has this person done to show they care about medicine...thats where ECs and essays come in then after that comes the interview which is bar none the most important part of the application process this is where they will truly know if you want to be in medicine for you or just for the money or your parents or whatever....take it from someone who got interviews at Umiami and Drexel/VIllanova...as the person above me said stats can only get you so far true character drives you in.
