I took high school Latin, but I’ve dropped it for my senior year. I’d prefer to hear from someone who’s taken the Latin test, but I’m assuming all of the tests are similar to each other.
Are they multiple choice? Are they particularly difficult? And is it possible to completely waive the GE language requirement with a placement test?
I’m wondering the same thing for the Spanish test. I found this discussion (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/714548-how-do-language-placement-exams-look-like.html) but it’s from 2009 so it might be different. Basically it said that it’s all MC but it’s adaptive so if youre doing well, it will get harder so it can see how advanced you are.
This is what I found about gened reqs.
“Students who place into level 4 of their high school foreign language have satisfied the Foundations foreign language requirement and will receive placement (PL) but no credit hours for level 3. Note: Students who place into level 4 of Latin on the online diagnostic exam are required to take an additional on-campus test if they wish to receive placement (PL) credit for level 3 and thus fulfill the foreign language General Education requirement; see the Department of Classics for additional information. Students who place beyond level 4 of their high school language have fulfilled the Foundations foreign language requirement and are awarded placement (PL) but no credit hours for levels 3 and 4.”
