What are you doing this summer?

I am still a first-year so essentially the career fairs, recruiting events, and so on during fall quarter were off-limits to me. I've been to info sessions from companies and so on and essentially, I have only encountered firms' 3-day leadership program type things available to freshmen and sophomores. I have secured one 3-day type program.

What year are you?
What are your plans for summer?
What should freshmen/sophomores do during their summers because it is not easy to access internships?

Yeah, I know that you just have to start at the smaller level in regards to gaining experience and exposure to different industries (example: starting at a small boutique firm).

I am still in the midst of applications/interviews and whatnot for various programs. Right now, my default plan is summer school.

You are way ahead of me. I'm just finishing my freshman year and I'm just going back to the minimum wage job I had during HS. I did apply and interview to work as a student aid during the two weeks of summer orientation for new students, but I didn't get the job :(.

I'm finishing up my freshman year, but next fall will be my 2nd as a sophomore by # of credits. I'm taking 7 credits (a Statistics course and an online computer course) at my school, working at an internship in the Athletic Dept (sports marketing) that I can keep until I graduate, and working at the Rec Center. I'll be busy, and didn't want to go home because I'd be bored out of my mind.

Whats it like working at the rec center?

I'm staying at school to take classes and have a guaranteed job.

well this summer will be my first time, and i'm excited. it surely varies from place to place, but first term workers here work upstairs in the weight area cleaning weights, putting weights on the right racks at the end of the day, making sure people clean their seat/handles with sanitizer, random counts of how many people use X machine in a day, etc. basically a lot of b.tch work. but after first term, if you do a good job you get to work at the front desk making sure people swipe their ID card, help organize special events, etc. after that you can become a building supervisor. i want to work either in sports marketing or sports facilities management, so i'm using this and the internship to find my niche.

we have a big rec center, so it's a big job. Our basketball arena could fit inside our rec center, with a lot of room to spare. plus i'm there a lot, so i figured "what the heck? might as well get paid to be there"

Haha, sounds like a sweet job.

I have an internship but not some wall street big firm type, just a small one to start off. Then summer classes, then raising you

a) first year
b) summers school/volunteering/research
c) what's ur major emmeline? if you're in the sciences, there is tons of research available. iono about interships tho.

I'm just finishing first year university (undergrad).

Take a class or two in summer school and/or work. If you take two classes, you probably shouldn't work, as summer school courses are pretty rigorous (especially math classes).

What year are you?

Enjoy your summer!!!
Your freshmen year is an adjustment year. I would honestly suggest being with friends and family over interning your first year. Sophomore year should be when you begin finding internships and such. Freshmen year (summer) I'd suggest taking a course or two if you like and just doing jobs you like -- no need to find "high level" internships. Do what's available and use it as a chance to try out an area of interest.

What year are you? sophomore, upcoming junior

What are your plans for summer? work and class

What should freshmen/sophomores do during their summers because it is not easy to access internships? work, go to school, or both. Doesn't have to be related to your field. Get some retail or restaurant or clerical experience, or really, any experience. Anything you can put on your resume eventually is good.

Freshman going on sophomore:

I'm doing a paid undergraduate research project in my major, and I'm also a summer student orientation advisor (RPI does freshman orientation in July).

1) Freshman, soon to be Sophomore
2) Internship in Washington DC working with a political activist organization

Freshmen going on Sophomore

I'll be going to London while my friends go study or do something at Oxford, then we're going to split up into two groups, and start at opposite areas of Europe and try and see if we can meet each other up somewhere in the middle.

That should take about a month and a half to two months, I'll be returning back to America for a hospital job doing... I dunno. Something...

I'm finishing up my freshman year, and I will be working as a dresser at Busch Gardens-Williamsburg this summer.

i'm freshman going to be junior and here are my plans for this summer:

finish THE HISTORY OF THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

learn some italian, arabic. continue to improve french

go to norton simon museum or the getty and play chess with my friend

start climbing huge buildings
