So last year, after I was done with the first year, I went back home like almost everybody else and took some summer courses.

This year, things seem to look different. The number of people going back home to relax is obviously smaller.

INTERNSHIP: Some will work on internships and research, which sound very nice. I can't find any similar opportunities since I have no previous experience. However, there's a special program at my school where you take 2 business courses and later offer you an internship, but the price is of main concern. Although my parents are willing to pay for the program and even encourage me to take advantage of the it, I still feel the price is unreasonably inflated for two courses + an internship. But again, I would be able to land on my very first internship and (hopefully) gain valuable experience.

If I end up going home, It seems like the only thing I can do at home is to take more CC courses (like I did last year) and probably get a job as well.

So, to my fellow sophomores in college, what are you doing this summer?

I’m trying to find an internship at home. Any internship…paid, unpaid, part-time, full-time…I really don’t care as long as it’s useful. If I can’t find an internship, then hopefully find some sort of part-time job.

My thoughts exactly. Why don’t you look for a job that pays YOU? Everybody has to find a first job at some point, and for most of us that job was not exactly glamorous. The sooner you get your feet wet the better.

the summer after my freshmen year i did physics research at school. This summer, I am aiming a little higher, applying to about 6 nsf reus in math. Hopefully, i’ll get one and be on my way to building a good grad school app.

I’m applying to internships. If I don’t get anything, I’ll be really p.o-ed but I’ll suck it up…Get a job doing what I did last summer and waitress or something.

Going to probably just stay the summer in my college town and get a full time job in fast food or retail, and then maybe some part time journalism work.
