congrats! when was the deadline for american? they sent out the decision really quick!

Congratulations! That’s wonderful. It’s heartening to hear that people are beginning to hear positive things. :)

hookedongtown: They weren’t directed towards Georgetown essays per se. Anyways, some of the don’ts included: talking too much about the uni’s location, flattering the school (GU already knows how wonderful it is), and some other stuff I can’t remember. However, if you want to know more the book is available at Border’s and its one of the only books, at Border’s, dedicated to college applications; so it shouldn’t be all that hard to find. ( : Hope that helps.

I really don’t see how that one author can speak for every admissions officer in the country though. So I wouldn’t worry about it. If one of the reasons you want to attend G-town is its locale in DC then that is an honest and worthy answer. I included a reference to GU’s location in my essay and I did mention some flattering aspects of the university. If we all followed the “rules” then I think the admissions folks would be falling asleep atop an unfinished pile of applications; more-so then they already do. haha

I was thinking that it would be awesome to write a book with a couple other students about the whole process for future transfers. Seeing that there is such a lack of texts available. ( :

I feel like I’m stalking this thread.

I completely agree with you about the lack of information for transfers. This forum is really the only vat of information I could find when scouring the internet. If not a book, a site certainly needs to be dedicated to the process. It’s just as long, trying, and difficult to transfer as it is to apply out of high school, if not more so.

“A Guide to Transferring by Transfers.” Think it’ll fly?

sounds like a great idea linala27! actually, if we really wanted to, we could collaborate and write a book together - all of us who’ve transferred successfully can provide a snippet of their “Transfer story” some trials and tribulations, ending it off with tips and some info.
I’m sure prospective transfers could really use it. And it’s not that hard to get published these days with sites like Lulu.com the only challenge would be the circulation, promotion etc

Gosh, I’m talking like it’s really happening -waaaaayy ahead of myself here. But still. THINK ABOUT IT YOU GUYS!

okay, I just read the above and it seems like Vegas247 has already proposed the same idea. So, I would just like to STRONGLY second that ;-)

Hey guys,

I’ve kinda been lurking this forum for the past several weeks, and figured I might as well get involved in the discussion while I wait for results.

A couple of things:

1) My regret: I second melonbread91. I told myself that I would learn from last year’s application process and not procrastinate to do my applications this time around… and then I procrastinated :(.

2) Sorry to ruin your plan guys, but such a book DOES in fact exist. It was written as you guys mentioned, BY transfers FOR transfers. Just go on Google, search “the transfer book,” and go to the first link. My friend sent me the link to the site a couple of months ago, and it’s pretty legit since the authors transferred to Dartmouth and Stanford and interviewed a LOT of transfers to write the book. Unfortunately, they didn’t release the book until maybe less than a month ago, at which point it wasn’t worth my money to buy. I think future transfer students should know about this book though, so that the process isn’t as frustrating for them as it was for all of us.

hey fmhcbc, hey thanks for the info. I was always aware that there has been a transfer book…hidden, somewhere…but I never could get my hands on it. It was never easily available, compared to Freshman help. Doesn’t hurt to publish another one to give others more options

vegas247: I’d be down for that. Mentioning Georgetown’s location seemed essential, it’s one of its defining characteristics! Georgetown wouldn’t be Georgetown if it was located in, let’s say, Boston, MA.

Vegas247

So, yeah, that book sounds pretty wrong. :)

Btw, are you experiencing insomnia too because of all the pending transfer decisions? I CAN’T SLEEP! lol.

hookedongtown: You are not alone lol I sent in my application a couple weeks ago and have had a knot in my stomach since that time…haha what school/program did you apply to?

Well, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of freshman admissions books. So, there should be no issue having two transfer books. I think if anyones interested we could still combine our experiences into a little book. It would look excellent on our resumes and would certainly help future students. I dunno what do ya’ll think. ? :

i don’t have to agree with you a second time , do I ? ;-)

Thanks melonbread and linala!
A collab sounds good to me!

My personal method of coping with the wait time is this forum. Which is rather sad, but in a way I’m glad I didn’t discover it until after all my apps were in. It would have just made me paranoid about everything I was doing, whereas I sort of navigated by intuition, putting myself into the applications instead of losing the me-ness of them behind “rules.”

…If that makes any sense.

I’m just going to run along to French now.

I wish I had spent more time on my essay for Penn…it’s a school I would love to go to, but I left the essay until the last minute. That last minute was…finals week, haha. I didn’t have much time to make it good.

@ Vegas247:

-Duke
-Columbia
-G’town (College)
-Tufts

What about you?

Lol I just made a thread about how I hate how I’ve thought about so many new things to put into my essays that would’ve taken them from great to amazing. So yes, def have some regrets haha but I’m pretty confident I’ll get in where I’m going (at least I try to be for my sanity’s sake) lol

omg arcade tell me about it. i had 6 midterms between march 1st and march 15, as well as a bunch of problem sets/papers due. i’m still in a daze from all the work in the past two weeks. that’s why you really need to start the essays like a month before the deadline haha

Nothing big, just maybe my time management.
