What are you turning down to come to gtown?

Chucknorris: Excellent choice. You give up P'ton and maybe my kid will get in there off the WL! Anybody else wanna take G'Town over P'ton?

One2: She did get Cornell but WL @ G'town SFS, too.

Dartmouth, Pomona, and Cal, among others.... it definitely took a while to decide...

Cornell , Middlebury, Bowdoin, Williams(waitlist), Wesleyan9waitlist)

BC Honors and Tufts. Also Middlebury (waitlist).

For what it's worth: my son is a sophomore at Georgetown. He is having an incredible experience there in every way. Academics, socially and even in his participation in extra-curriculars. DC is such an amazing place to be. I only wish I had gone to school there! Those of you who have made this decision and are wondering or are having "buyers remorse", I truly believe attending this school was the smartest move he has ever made. And it seems to get better each year.

AFDAD, what is your son studying?

He switched to the business school this year and will probably major in finanance or international finance. He is also taking a lot of political science classes.

Turned down Yale, Wash U, Boston College, USC, Notre Dame, UCLA and Baylor HOYA SAXA all the way

wow you sure freed up a few waitlist spots haha

Columbia, Princeton - waitlist, Cornell...
I would like New York but the people at Columbia weren't exactly the most friendly... what do you expect it's new york right?

ChuckNorris: don't you think that's a bit arrogant to assume you'd have to study at princeton and yale but wouldn't necessarily do so at Georgetown? Just because it has the name doesn't mean it's any more difficult. At those schools you make your learning experience without the compulsion of grades. Georgetown, though, from what I hear, is not quite as enlightened.

I TURNED DOWN:

University of Dehli

UMICH

GeorgeTOWN

HOPKINS

Perhaps a few others

Mario Vaz

THANK YOU FOR NOT TRYING IT!?!?

OK what I meant was that the other schools felt like kids devoted way too much time to academic development at the expense of a social life. Maybe that's not true (it probably isn't true, or at least it's an exaggeration) - but I feel like college is as much about personal growth as education. Nowhere did I say that I was going to cruise through Georgetown - from what I read, it'll be tough - but I feel like at the other places, life after classes was rather...limited. Georgetown, on the other hand, felt like a place where really bright kids work really hard, but don't forget that they're kids. Sorry if that first message came across as really arrogant (I was actually kinda embarrassed re-reading it), but I think I needed to clarify what I said.
