What are your favorite places to eat on campus?

What are you favorite places to eat on campus and what are your favorite dishes?

This couldn't go on the "Random But Necessary Questions" thread because... ?

this will vary so much from person to person...just try everything first and then see what you like.

and if these answers didn't satisfy you, search the forum. there have been numerous lengthy threads about the food at ucsd.

The meal I most remember is the breakfast burrito at Oceanview Terrace. I liked it, but that is probably because living in Southern California you grow up on burritos.

There are a lot of places to eat on campus, some are far better than others.

OVT (Ocean View Terrace) in marshall is open late (1 am) and tends to have higher quality food. It's well known for various mexican food (burrito/tacos/etc) and has a pretty diverse selection.

Summit (Sierra Summit) in muir is pretty good - it has decent sandwiches and stir fry, but it's basically the same food you'll get other places. they also sell ice cream and smoothies there.

el mercado in muir is a mexican place that actually makes very good food. probably some of the highest quality on campus, but only open until 3pm.

erc's place (blanking on the name right now) looks really great but the food is pretty bad to average.

revelle and warren both have terrible food. i lived in warren so i can say especially warren was bad.

foodworx at sixth is pretty good as well, nice pizzas and salads.

there are other places to eat but you'll figure it out in a few weeks.

^^cafe ventanas

Speaking of food, is there a costco nearby? (I'm rather fond of their 1.50 hot dog and drink combo)

About 5 miles away in La Jolla.

Awww, any other really cheap places for good food?

a lot of club meetings will offer free food, although it's usually just pizza. other than that, making/cooking your own food is probably the cheapest.

In La Jolla? I guess grocery stores. Restaurants are usually on the high end. San Diego is expensive, La Jolla being pricier than San Diego's average. Cooking your own food is probably the cheapest solution.

And what do kids usually cook? Do they make dishes of like pasta and all that or is it much simpler stuff like easy mac or noodles and such?

Usually stick to microwave stuff. Most college kids can't cook, which is a shame.

I can cook :D

you can buy a mini freezer and buy a lot of microwave dinners...i live off of those :D

How much do you buy those for? I buy these one dollar swanson ones for late night snacks but I dunno if they have places down there that sell em for a buck.

hmm well I'm not sure about the La Jolla area, but there are plenty of Albertsons and Vons that sell them for a dollar

Are there any good Asian food and/or noodle places on campus?

on-campus asian food: panda express, shogun (japanese food)

off-campus: Kearny Mesa/Clairemont Mesa/Linda Vista neighborhood is good (Southeast of campus)...there's a Ranch 99 there and Convoy is close by. Convoy has tons of Vietnamese, Thai, some Chinese and lots of Korean food.
