What is the best dining place?

i want to know which restaurant serves the "best" quality food (your opinion, of course). obviously, only current ucsd students would know, but still, i hafta know. i only had the chance to eat @ plaza cafe, which i don't think might be the "best."

Caf

well, all of them pretty much become unappealing if you eat there enough times.
but in my opinion, Sierra Summit is pretty good, especially if you are vegetarian or like that kind of food (on weekdays they have a different vegetarian dish for every lunch and dinner). Also a lot of people like their stirfy but I don't.
I've eaten the most at Canyon Vista, it's alright but you kind of have to go out of your way to get there to eat there if you're not from warren. they have a pretty good variety, the pasta is really cheap and the sandwiches are good too. sometimes the stirfy is great, sometimes it sucks.
OVT is also good, they always seem to have every single kind of food available (lots of diff. pasta dishes, sandwiches, mexican food, international etc..)
El Mercado is just mexican food...it's not bad but not "spectacular" either.
The other places I haven't really eaten at that often...but once you've been on campus a while you'll see where it's most convenient to eat and get a better taste of which places you like and don't like.

What's the place you'd eat at if you wanted the best bang for your buck, that is, the most food for the least amount of money?

OVT is, duh!

OVT has some pretty cheap stuff. It's also nice that it's open late.

I really like the sandwiches from Sierra Summit, try their garlic mayo ^_^.

Ah, I wish I were an incoming freshman again, it's so exciting not knowing exactly what's next, but wanting to know as much as possible! >_<

Plaza is horrible.

I like Canyon Vista, although its reputation is worse than Sierra Summit and OVT.

Caf

nothing beats the ovt pasta

plaza cafe to me is the best value though in terms of price and quality

ucsdhopeful wins the thread.

agreed with every assessment, though I would add that the fine dining at Cafe V is pretty cool but will suck up the D$

also summit has carved meats (turkey, roast beef, ham, lamb, meatloaf) a la carte or on sandwiches (yay protein)

The best place is ERC's w/e its called on wednesday when they do fine dining.

I despise fine dining. I've never purchased a fine meal since it's too expensive.

thanks ucsdhopeful, that was very inciteful

Ok so is Plaza the better deal for the food, or OVT, because I'm seeing some ppl praise one more then the other.

dont they serve like fruit juices at plaza at the side?

I do like El Mercado's shrimp tacos... Mmm, so good. Every Wednesdays, I believe. Other than that, I'm not too keen on their food.

Summit, I used to like the garlic mayo sandwiches and stirfry. Now, it makes me want to puke. In fact, pretty much everything at Summit makes me want to puke now.

I still haven't gotten too sick of OVT's super quesadillas and breakfast burritos, but I know within the first few months of school, I finally will. Nice selection of snacking food. Some of the wraps are decent too. I still enjoy their caesar chicken wraps; banana wrap only when I haven't had it in a loooong time.

Cafe Ventanas has a nice interior, and nice selection of snacking food as well. Has unique selection, such as mochi ice cream and caprico drinks.

Canyon Vista. Hmm, I had a very good fried shrimp dinner there before, but unfortunately, it's just too far for me to frequent. That will be my goal for this upcoming year: visit Canyon Vista more often.

Plaza. Sorry, but basically everything there looks really unappealing to me. Pass.

Just my experiences. I think all students do agree on this point though: you grow to hate campus food.

Is there a Carl's Jr nearby?

All off-campus excursions are too strenuous as a first year.

Of course, unless you have a car. And you are willing to pay for gas and parking permit. Then you are designated driver of the year. Yes, that include food runs.

Now, back to topic, the closest Carl's Jr is off the Garnet exit of the 5 south. If you're going to go there, you might as well just go to the In-n-Out (<3) there. There's a 7-11 there for your slurpy needs as well.

If you don't want to go that far, there's a Chipotle at the Ralph's square. Easy enough to get there with a UCSD shuttle bus.

there are restaurants like jamba juice, panda express, subway, tacone, round table, shogun (japanese food, highly unrecommended, a friend's friend swears he saw a rat, and there have been black hairs found in my food) at price center. and they're expanding it and it will include more restaurants by winter quarter, i think.

oh yeah and you can pretty much guarantee yourself that 4/5 days, there will be korean bbq on library walk for $5. some days is even better, with TWO korean bbq stands, LOL. and sometimes they sell those indian dumplings (i can't remember what they're called) that have chickpeas in it? and viet sandwiches, sometimes hot dogs and burgers...

hows the cafeteria food? When I was at UCLA they had good food....like good, lol..um lol, but yea how the food their at the UCSD cafeteria?...at ucla they have the people cooking rigth in front of you giving you like just out of the pan stuff....like omlets, pasta, pizza, etc.......Oh and how much is it? More cheaper and affordable? all you can eat?
