harvard is my safety.

couldn't do any better than that amnesia? :)

That's nothing. I'm using Oxford.

eh, mine is the Indian Institute of Technology

ah. All three are my safeties.

barnard. and maybe wellesley and gw, since barnard's not too easy to get into.

Colgate. Except Carleton (which is still very selective but I did a summer program there and got a scholarship so I hope I'll get in) all the other schools I'm applying to are extremely selective. I think I shouldn't have a hard time getting in to Colgate... but then I start second-guessing that. So there's a chance I'll still apply some other places.

BC and New College of Florida

i guess you could consider bu, gw and nyu (sort of) as my safeties. also, penn is sort of my "i'm pretty damn sure i'm gonna get in" but not safety. i live in philly, and A LOT (like 20-25%) of my school gets in there. plus my bro went there ive taken classes there, so... i'll be upset if i don't.

Getting into Penn RD, even if (actually, probably 'especially if') you are exceptionally qualified, is virtually as difficult as getting into HYP

speaking of really hard to get into schools as safeties, although I am far from calling columbia a safety, my mother and father have a combined 5 degress from them and regularly donate.

so Im hoping that I should have a good chance there.

see, i knew i'd get that response westernmass, and you're absolutely right, but it's just that i've seen a lot of less qualified people get in there from my school, simply because it's the best magnet public school in philadelphia and so theres sort of a connection with penn. i hope that doesnt make me sound overly snooty, its just a thing at my school. im serious, its scary how many kids go there. again i would not call it a safety, but i think i have an extremely decent shot.

WesternMass, your statement is incorrect.

These are the regular decision acceptance rates for the Class of 2008 at HYP and Penn.

Harvard - 7.65%
Yale - 8.20%
Princeton - 9.69%
Penn - 17%

As you can see, the regular decision acceptance rate for Penn is nearly TWICE that of HYP. Thus, it is not "virtually as difficult as getting into HYP" but actually much easier.

Boston University and UTexas-Austin
also applying to WashU

It's a fact that Penn does not want to admit a student that they perceive may be using them as a 'safer' school. That is why I made that comment. If you have HYP stats, you really have to sell your love of Penn in order to make it in RD. Looking just at acceptance rates does not tell the full story

BU, Brandeis, GW, NYU, Northeastern, Rutgers

whats the point of so many safeties if they are safeties?

Well those are the schools I'm looking at right now. I'll probably narrow it down to like 3 in the end. JUST in case you only get into your safeties, you want some variety, yeah?

argh...umich still hasn't gotten back to me...but thats cause i guess i sent it kinda late +_+

wash u in st louis, madison, and rice are my safeties...but i'm only applying to them if i don't get in to uchicago ea. yale, princeton and stanford are definitely my reach schools
