Okay, so I kinda slacked off during high school and ended up with a 3.1ish unweighted and around 3.3 weighted and subsequently got denied by NYU CAS. Im an International btw. So Im going to the best university in my country and I was thinking: What if I can pull off a 3.8+ GPA my first year? I am also interning at an investment bank this summer. Will I be able to transfer to NYU STERN (not CAS) for my sophmore year onwards? I also heard that NYU doesnt ask for your SAT scores (transfers). This means that all they're going to look at is the GPA, internships, essays, and rec letters. Thoughts?

When I was at NYU, transferring into Stern was difficult for other NYU undergrads - one could apply, but one couldn’t count on getting in. I imagine that outside students would be held to at least the same standards. So apply to transfer if you’re still interested, but don’t assume that you’ll be able to get in.

Hope for the best but expect the worst. I live by that. Thanks for the opinion. I know its a tough school, but thats how it has to be, I guess. Any pointers that can help make my app. look even better?

That’s a good attitude to take.

I don’t know whether Stern transfer applications need SAT scores or not - might be something you want to look into so you don’t get a nasty surprise. Of course, your GPA will need to be great because Stern transfers are very competitive and your high school transcript is lackluster.

Getting a green card or US citizenship would probably help a bit, but that’s not necessarily a great step to take just for Stern.

As an international student, you will not be eligible for any help from the US federal government, and as a transfer your financial aid from NYU will be very stingy. It would suck to get into Stern and then discover you couldn’t afford it. Have you thought about how you’d finance an education at NYU?

Transferring into Stern as an international???

I think you need to reassess your options buddy.

yeah, Stern takes very little people.

they don’t look at your SATs after a certain number of credits.

go to the Transfer Student Forum here on CC and look at the transfer student tearing their hair out in the NYU thread. some of them had 4.0s and were rejected from Stern.

Im looking for local scholarships in my country. We have a couple of billionaires here and there who would not mind financing kids ( some sort of agreement) who want to study at prestiguous schools. Thanks for your input NuclearPakistan1. missamericanpie, the omnipotent, yes I am aware of the competitiveness and I am prepared to do what ever it takes to get as far as I can with my education. There are around 30 top schools to choose from. I will not dwell on rejections because then my life would be pointless, am I wrong? It’s ALLLL about challenges, survival of the fittest, Charles Darwin knew it. Thanks for your input, everyone. Please feel free to continue giving advice, it can ONLY help.

ha, omnipotent. you flatter me.

seriously, though, go to the transfer student forum. there are international students there who have transferred to top US schools. they can probably provide you with information that i don’t know about transferring.

good luck!!!

Thanks. Which school did you transfer to, btw? Im curious. And yes, I will definitely have a look at the transfer student forum. Thank you:)

why not try CAS again? I mean you might actually have a shot lol.

True true. Thanks for reminding me by the way. I’ve been meaning to ask you guys something. Whats the difference between Stern Econ and CAS Econ. I want to “go down that road” (Ibanking and such). I know the job opportunites are amazing when you come out of Stern, but how bout CAS Econ? Is it almost/equally as good?
