What Can I Do to Help Me Get to Yale?

Yale is my dream school.

Rudimentary Facts:
I’m a Sophomore
I’m A/B+ Student
I’m Asian
I’m involved with about 10 extracurricular
I’m taking AP and Honors courses
I’m planning on getting a job this summer
I’m in the top 5% of my school
My projected ACT is 33
My dream is to be a physician and change the medicine for humanity through research.

Please I want constructive criticism. I will not be mad if you dash my dreams but know I won’t let it stop me.

I could write all about it, but this MIT article says it perfectly, and it’s the exact same principle for Yale. Check it out!

By the way- I think that your dreams are awesome!

Getting good grades and scoring high on the SAT/ACT is not going to be enough if you want to get into Yale.

You will really need some ECs that will stand out. Joining 10 ECs without any meaningful contribution or theme behind it will certainly not help.

BTW you should shoot for a higher ACT score than 33.

Focus on 2-3 ECs in depth(awards, leadership, etc.)
Get ACT to 35
Get a 4.0 in junior year

and you might have a shot

Raising your ACT shouldn’t be your primary concern. 33 is just about the average accepted score at Yale.

get leadership positions have passion for your ECs, set yourself apart. You’ve literally just described yourself in this thread in the same way 75% of the people on here are like…

Thank you everyone so much. I will make sure to give all of your advice a spin

Yale was always my dream school, but I was realistic. I decided to put together a list of schools where I’d be happy if I only got into any one of them. I worked hard for four years and took challenging courses, but I also found things I was passionate about and tried to become involved with as many activities as possible. I kept doing things I loved rather than quit to have more time for studying or “better” ECs. I could’ve taken easier classes, sure, and BC/Multi Calc is still the bane of my existence, but now I know that I’m going to Yale next fall, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Can we talk some more. I’m really anxious for some strange reason.

Obtain some state/national recognition in several of your ECs as well as develop a focus to your education (e.g. medicine) through volunteering, ECs (e.g. shadowing a doctor, organizing a cancer fundraiser).
