I’m an international student from Vietnam, currently in sophomore year with stats below:
GPA (UW): 3.9
There is no ranking system at our school
Extra curricular:
- President of a service club that builds houses for underprivileged families in rural Vietnam (highlight)
- President of school’s Medical Interns Program
- Co-editor of school’s literary + arts magazine
- Co-editor of school’s official publication
- City STEM competition awards
- I’m in a group that helps freshmen adjust to high school, academically & emotionally
- I make grammar infographics for an online site that helps Vietnamese students learn English
- I paint in my free time, donate art to the school’s annual auction every year, and designed school’s sweatshirt + mugs
- National honor society (I’m in charge of stage design for our TEDx event)
AP classes:
AP World History (predicted 5)
I plan on taking AP Bio, AP Psych, AP Calc AB, AP Art in my junior + senior year.
My school doesn’t offer a lot of AP classes, but I’m going to take IB Lit HL and IB Chem HL.
Exams
SAT: 1480 (but I’ll retake and aim for at least 1500)
SAT II: planning on World History, Bio, and Chem.
Main essay: I’m thinking of writing about making omelettes and how that shapes who I am.
I plan on applying to: Amherst (ED), UMass Amherst, Middlebury, Brandeis, NYU, Colgate, URochester, Clark University as a biology-visual arts double major. I also thought of applying to Brown-RISD, but I think that’s a little too ambitious.
My family can contribute ~20 000/year, so I will need FA as well.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
