what can i do to increase my chances (film/tv major at UCLA)

I want to take Film & Television at UCLA... I know that if you want to apply to something from the College of Letters & Sciences, TAP would greatly help...but how about for the School of Film,Theater and Television? what can I do to improve my chances of getting in?

a good portfolio of your work would be a great start...otherwise it'd be very difficult considering they accept less than 10% of applicants every year

yeah, I heard its really competitive.

anything else I can do to improve my chances? im so desperate. I wish the TAP wasn't limited to the college of letters & science.

maybe look for an internship somewhere?

the school of film and tv is different from l&s in that it's not really just about grades...sorry if that's a little vague as i don't know a lot about how to get in other than that you should make yourself real unique

try ****ing a baldwin, you can't throw a stone in la without hitting one

anything else? =)

bumping this in case someone knows..

when admission is about a 5% chance, you just have to be exceptional.

ECs, Work, Internship, Grades, and of course for film and exceptional portfolio and connections.

its 5%!!!

oh god.

no it was 3.53% this year

UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2007

are you interested in Film and TV major or Theater?

Theater was 17.49%

:-(

film/tv major....but it'd be possible to apply as a theater major and just switch majors if I do get accepted, right?

Straight from the UCLA site:

Note: Theater students will not be able to change into the Film and Television major after transfer.

jvn098- you are talking about pretty much the top film school in the nation, i am not sure what the rankings are exactly but aside from USC, UCLA and NYU there really are not many other highly prestigious film programs and given the proximity to Hollywood you really are competing with everyone in the country for a spot, so it is expected that you would have to just simply be exceptional to get in. Consider that even students who are accepted to UCLA from high school do not have the option of just declaring film, they actually apply junior year and compete with you and everyone else.

Film is one of those majors that you really have to leave your options open to other schools because it is more likely than not that one will not get into UCLA, NYU or USC or the like.

My friend majored in Film and Radio studies at Fullerton CSU- as much as she would have loved to go to UCLA film or the like she didnt get in from high school, went to CSU long beach- didnt get into their film program either so she had to transfer Fullerton.
