What can I do?

Hey all, I just wanted a check to see if I am on the right path at this point and if I am on track for getting into an elite university or a good UC.
I am a California resident, I reside in Cupertino (highly highly competitive area).
I am a sophomore in high school, and the classes I am taking are: Spanish 3, Math Analysis, World History, World Literature, and last semester I took Chemistry Honors, however I got my first D ever in the class, so I decided to drop it this year. My teacher for Chemistry is originally a biology teacher put into chemistry honors just because our school needed another one, he has no idea what he is doing..
My gpa is not stellar at the moment, it is a 2.9 cumulative for my first two semesters of freshman year plus my first semester of sophomore year. Next year I am planning on taking 1 AP, and 2 Honors, and Audition Choir as my elective.
I have strong extra curriculars and volunteering and sports, however I lack a bit in the clubs department and GPA ofcourse.
I am wondering, what can I do to improve my chances at a top college?
Should I take Spanish 4 honors next year (thinking of dropping to take International Business or ASB leadership) ?
Where do you think I still have a shot at getting in (due to my low GPA and getting a D last semester)
Any recs for summer courses? Also I am aiming high for the SATs, I am taking a bootcamp over the summer and everything.
Thank you all for your time!

Instead of Spanish can you take an AP class in its stead? If not, stick with Spanish. A 2.9 GPA hurts, anything less than a 3 pretty much tells admissions you are about average.
