This is the sort of rhetorical question that is behind the whole application. I'm gonna be applying to uf this fall and my question is how do I address this in my essay? You can't really be overt and say "well I'm great at math so I'll probably develop a new formula that will gross money for the school"

So how do you show your value and that you will be a great addition to gator nation?

You should focus more on how you can contribute to the gator nation as a community. Like how you will become involved on campus and be a part of different organizations or maybe how you want to do research while at UF.

Hmmm…I didn’t really see it that way and got accepted. My essays said nothing about what I could contribute, not literally anyway. They want you to tell a story about your life, and through THAT and your extracurriculars, involvements…etc, they will be able to tell what you can contribute. Your essay could detail a passion, which they assume (+ you could hint) you plan to continue at UF.

Hmm…I had no idea that they changed the essay every year. I applied for Fall 2012 (currently a sophomore) and my topic was about overcoming some sort of obstacle. Anyway, I’d go with how you’d get involved to extracurriculars and your role as member of the Gator Nation.
