What chance do I have at.......

UC San Diego
UC Merced
UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Cruz
San Jose State
San Diego State
UC Davis
UCLA

My GPA is reealllyyy crappy. Unweighted it's a 2.99. It's because I've gotten 2 D's. I have, however, made up one D at a local community college and passed with a B. I am currently making up the other D.

My SAT score is a 1910.
SAT IIs: Literature-670, US History-650

I've taken 2 AP classes in my junior year. I got a 3 on AP US History and a 5 on AP Psychology. I'm currently taking AP English and AP Music Theory.

My extracirriculars:
1. 3 years of varsity cross country and track. Our team will hopefully qualify for state championships this year in cross country.
2. 10 years of piano. I have completed all levels from 0-10 in the Certificate of Merit testing.
3. Active involvement in my church. I've been activties coordinator starting this senior year, and I sometimes lead bible study. I'm also learning how to keyboard, so I can lead worship.
4. I have over 100 hours in community service hours and volunteer work. I am working towards getting 300 (haha my friends and I are on a mission).

My major: undecided, but I'm trying for a non-math and non-science major.

I also plan on running cross country in college.

My race: half asian, half caucasian

Extra Notes: At the UC's I read they take family income and personal hardships into consideration. I know this sounds bad, but I'm relying on the fact that I went through some really hard times to justify my low GPA. I'm hoping that the UC admissions will understand what I went through and how much I have matured after they read my essay. And that they'll "push" my low GPA aside and give me a chance. What do you guys think?

bumpity splat

Sweet Ambrosia:

UCLA: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCSB/UCD: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCM: Match

hhhmmm thats what i expected. how about csu's?

Bump Bump Bump Bump

Unfortunately most state schools don't/can't "push low GPAs aside." The accept on a quantative basis. If you look at UCs, students not in the top 10% of their class have little chance.

You'd be better off applying to privates if you're looking for understanding. If your family is low income many will actually be cheaper than a state school.

at every school there are always students who are admitted with incredibly low GPA's or SAT scores. at every UC, about 3-4% (roughly 30-50 students) of students admitted have GPA's lower than 3.00. UCSD is the 1 exception, only 5 ppl got admitted with GPA less than 3.0. So do apply to every UC school, including UCR, and UCM, if u explain your hardships well, your chances arent so bad
