For 2nd semester so far I'm doing roughly the same. Maybe a tad bit worse.

Academic GPA Non-Weighted: 3.32
Academic 10-12 GPA Non-Weighted: 3.18 ( :( )
Honors Semesters: 11 ( :) )
AP Semesters: 1 ( :( )

So, what classes should I take Senior year?

Math wise, my only option is AP Calculus, which is really hard at my school, and after getting Cs sophomore year in Pre-Calc, it would probably be hard for me. Or I could retake Pre-Calc, but that would kind of suck, or something at a local community college?

The Spanish year 3 teacher is really bad and hard, and after struggling in year 2, I decided to only do the 2 years required, rather than the 3 years recommended by colleges. Should I maybe try year 3 even though it's really hard and I don't enjoy it?

I plan to take normal English. Maybe AP Lit. I could even do AP Lang.

History wise, I plan to do both AP Economics, and AP Government. Both are year long classes. (2 APs to make up for lack of Spanish and Math Sr. Year, Or should I take either math or Spanish??)

Science wise I plan to take AP Environmental Science.

I have a good elective too, and a sport.

So that would make:

AP Environmental Science
AP Economics
AP Government
English Normal
Business Elective
Study Hall
Sport

Is that fine?

All three of those APs I can handle, they are the easier APs for Sr. Year. Plus, it's a substantial jump from only taking 1 AP Jr. Year.

As you can see my GPA isn't that great. I did better Jr. Year, but that's because my course rigor wasn't that hard Jr. Year.

I plan to apply to colleges like: UCSB, UCSC, UCD, Cal Poly Slo, Long Beach State, UMiami, Pepperdine, ASU, Santa Clara, Chapman, U San Diego, etc..

So remember I'm not like most kids on the forum applying to super competitive schools, I'm your more average smart kid, not super wizz...

Is my schedule fine?? Or should I change something? Help me out!! Is it fine to have only taken 3 years of math in H.S. Does algebra and geometry in middle school actually make it 5 years?? How much will not taking a third year of foreign language hurt me?? Please help? How's my schedule??

More background is:

PSAT = 176 without prep. Hopefully with prep I can get SAT around 2000, maybe 1900s.

Rather good ECs.

Over the summer I plan to take a course at community college like psychology.

My H.S. is public and ranked about 50th in CA. So pretty good!

I plan to major in business.

I gave you a lot of information. haha Anything else you need? I would love some help, advice, and recommendations!! Thanks!!

Can I get a B? B. Can I get a U. U. Can I get a M. M. Can I get a P? P.

Bump!

Try 2:

Can I get a B? B. Can I get a U. U. Can I get a M. M. Can I get a P? P.

Bump!

If you want to major in business, I would recommend taking calculus or doing something over the summer in Math, because you’ll take calc in college and it will help tremendously to have background in it.

Okay, I think I will. Thanks!! Any more advice??

You would have a better shot at the UCs with more Spanish and more math. tommy’s advice about catching up in the summer is a great idea.

Is Spanish really that necessary? I really don’t want to do it! hahaha

If I do math in the summer, and those 3 APs, would I be fine?? Or should I really do it??

And what math would I take?? Trig or Pre-Calc again and aim for the A?? Or… Calc? and probably struggle cus I took it in 10th grade and got Cs…??

Does your HS offer a business math or accounting or consumer math course? Happykid’s school just gave the old consumer math course a name along the lines of “financial literacy” and suddenly all of the parents who’ve lost buckets of money in the current financial crisis are making their kids take it. And frankly, they are correct. Consumer math (or whatever it’s called at your school) is the only math that most of us need in real life. Save Calculus for when you are really truly prepared for it (or actually truly need it). Happykid was planning to take it all along because math isn’t her strong suit. She’s just amazed at all of the Calculus drop-outs who are going to be in class with her next year.

If you hate the foreign language(s) offered at your school don’t waste any more time on them now that you have two years of Spanish. When you need a foreign language in real life, you can take a better course somewhere else.

I don’t see any “I’m taking this class this year just because I want to.” course on your list. Unless it is your Business Elective. Where is the fun class? HS is your last chance to take whatever you feel like for FREE. Can you do an independent study/senior project on a topic that interests you? Happykid is interested in theater tech. All of the theater tech kids at her school have the last period of the day as independent study to get their lighting/sound/set design work done.

If he is serious about acceptance at the UCs, he needs more academic classes rather than fun classes.

well, all the APs are pretty easy and im interested in.

the business class is my fun class.
and i got a sport!

we dont have independent studies.

yeee lots of people are dropping out of ap calc. typically seniors who dont wanna take ap calc go to stats, which im doing this year. we dont have any other math courses. so taking math a year early has messed me up!!

thankss!! any more advice.!!

bump 78798

I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Get that GPA up, and you’ll be fine for most of the schools you’ve expressed interest in.

haha im getting mixed oppinions from everyone!! i dont know what to do. thanks though!!

buuuuuuuuuuuumpmpmmp
