I'll be an incoming freshman to IU's Business School University Division next year (not direct admit), and was wondering which classes to take. I've read that there are certain courses required to get into Kelley, a certain grade to get, and a certain time period to take them.

Completion of three or more of the following admissions courses:
MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics
MATH-M 119 Brief Survey of Calculus
BUS-K 201 The Computer in Business
BUS-X 100 Introduction to Business Administration OR BUS-G 100 Business in the Information Age

I was wondering which courses to take in order to maximize my chances of getting into Kelley?

why wont BUS X 100 count for anything? Its a I-CORE pre req right? Also, it says we have to do all 15 i-core pre reqs before we start the I-Core, how long will this take? Also, if you’re a standard admit, will it take you longer to graduate?

X100 is not an i-core pre req and it will not count for anything.

I-Core pre reqs are usually spread out over the first two years (but some people get done with them early and take i-core second semester of sophomore year; some people get done with them later and take i-core second semester of junior year). They aren’t too hard to complete.

It will take you no longer to graduate as a standard admit than it would if you were a direct admit.

I am pretty sure that you are only exempt from X100 only if you are a direct admit. I would say take it. Your first concern is getting into the business school. The reality is that X100 is an easy A…especially in comparison to the other pre reqs. Take the easiest pre reqs you can, apply to the b school, than get through the rough stuff. A lot of people do not consider that, thus their rejection from Kelley.

I have never heard of anyone taking I-Core second semester Sophomore year. So don’t let that be a thought in your mind. People take it from summer before Junior year through second semester Junior year. You have time and are in no rush. Your main priority is arranging your classes so that you can achieve the best GPA you can.

I am a Kelley DA and I have just finished my freshman year. My advisor said X100 would be a good class for me to take, and I only realized later that it was completely useless. It is NOT an I-Core prerequisite and it is not required for any student, so it basically doesn’t count for anything. Also, it is not really an easy A, as there is a lot of reading and pure memorization in the class, which is personally not the best way I learn. I ended up with a B+ in the class.

If you want to take classes to apply for Kelley, I would do what maxellis says and take M118, M119 and K201.

since your not a DA your goal should be to get as high of a GPA as possible. take x-100 w/ myron kanning dude. I would recommend you to take K-201, M-118, X-100, and 2 easiy A&H, S&H courses… some easy A&H, S&H that comes to mind is intro to pyschology, intro to socology, etc… you also want to take m-118 fall semester. then m-119 spring semester. finite math is easier than brief calc.

Second semester, take A-100 first 8 weeks, M-119, public speaking, W-131 along with easy intro S&H and A&H courses. You want to take A-100 the first 8 weeks so if you bomb the first exam you can register it again for the 2nd 8 weeks. Also, you want to take k-201 fall semester… so if you get at least a B+ you can become a peer tutor the following spring semester. Being a peer tutor can be your “leadersip position” when applying to Kelley. Hope this helps.

I am a UD student planning on getting into Kelley after my frosh year. I am taking english, finite, psych, a100, x100, and I am looking for another class. The Advisor at orientation suggested philosophy cuz it’s an A&H but i’m not really interested in it and it seems hard given that it’s a discussion as well as a lecture.
Does anyone have any suggestions for an A&H? (preferably on the easier side)
Also, I am interested in taking a course in the Physics category called “Energy and Technology.” Does anyone know anything about that?

yea don’t take any science or intestive writing classes. as for clubs, I would look into any clubs inside the Kelley School… if your trying to get into Kelley. The admissions officers want to see that your involved so pick a Kelley club that interests you.

One of the positive aspects of a big state school is that with so many students there are a variety of clubs to join and get involved.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the feedback. These are the classes and times I’m taking them (as of now). How does it look?
