I'm looking for:
- A place that's academically rigorous w/lots of resources
- a good music program
- isn't the worst place on earth to live, but the social life doesn't have to be amazing
- isn't too big, but not too small either
- people who're nice/friendly
- where I could get in though I have a few B's on my transcript (I'll be a junior this year)

Any ideas?

Columbia University??

doesnt Rochester have a good music program?

I don't know...I'm pretty new to all this.
I took the college match test thing at the princeton review, and it came up with a LOT of colleges. I don't know how I'm going to pick through them all...

Oberlin College

Bard College

Both have really good music programs. They are small to medium sized LACs. Top notch academics but not insanely hard to get into (35-50% acceptance rate). Both are in more rural areas but im sure there's plenty to do still

Here:
Matches: Dartmouth, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Northwestern, Cornell, Bard, Claremont McKenna, other obscure colleges I haven't heard of...

I felt like a lot of these should be reaches after reading the list, but they match you up by what you want and your GPA/PSAT scores

Reaches: Harvard, Brown, MIT, Cal Tech, Pomona (I've heard a lot of praise for this place), Yale, Princeton, UCLA, UCB, Penn, Stanford

Safeties...Wow, a lot...

The ones that matched me w/highest percentages: Northeastern, Pomona, Carnegie Mellon

I'm feeling worse now.

Oberlin, Bard, Rochester, Columbia. Thanks soooooo much!!! I'm definitely looking into these.

Ummm, PR is idiotic, I would ignore it mostly. For example, Dartmouth and NYU aren't even close in selectivity and are totally different. Dartmouth absolutely belongs in the reach category.

What are your stats? Its hard to tell you w/o SAT and GPA/rank.

I'm going to be a junior, but took my PSAT last year and got a 230 (78CR/74M/78W).

I took SATII Math and ran out of time, but got a 790.

My GPA...well, I haven't tried figuring it out, but I've taken seven classes through Freshman and Sophomore Year. 3 B+'s: in 1st and 2nd semester AP Calculus and 2nd semester Physics, but also took AP European History.

I think I did ok on my AP tests, but I'm not sure.

Next year, I'll be taking AP Chem, AP US History, AP Calculus BC, Honors English.

I'm was in Latin 1 last year because I started late w/language, but I'm skipping Latin 2 (working over the summer).

I'm VERY involved in speech. Going to be one of the youngest presidents ever next year. Went to nationals this year, state this year and last year.

Play piano + violin (cliche, I know) but I'm trying out for a REALLY prestigious orchestra and am hoping I get in. Piano is purely for my pleasure.

Do some writing/poetry on the side. I'm planning to enter a few essay contests.

There's more, but it'll have to wait, for now.
What do you think? What can I do/not do?

First of all... are u getting confused between Northwestern and Northeastern?

Secondly, no matter what your stats, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and Cornell are all more selective than UCLA and UCB. I think you need to do A LOT more research.
