I’m wondering what colleges on my list anyone thinks I could reasonably get into. I know that there’s a ton of factors involved, but any general ballparks people could provide would be great.
I am going into my senior year.
I live in Pennsylvania.
I go to an online charter school, and I attend the school’s performing arts education program and their advanced learning program. Each year, I take four pre-professional arts classes at the performing arts education program.
GPA: 3.94
I’m in the top 20% of my class.
I am taking two AP classes this year(Lang and APUSH). I’m taking the exams for both of them. I plan to take 2 AP classes next year(Lit and Psych)
I got a 3 on the AP Lang Exam.
PSAT: 1270
On most practice SATs I’ve taken, I’ve gotten around a 1360. I’m hoping to break 1400 by next year, but who knows if I’ll even get to take them.
I took all honors classes freshman year except for Bio, and all honors classes sophomore year except for Algebra II.
ECs: Thespian Society Vice President, Chorale, Creative Writing club, Yearbook club
I’ve been in the cast of 3 plays and the crew of 4 plays. I’ve performed in 4 vocal concerts, 2 cabarets, and 5 showcases.
I’ve done volunteer work for an animal shelter, a hospice center, and my local library.
I am currently in the process of starting to sell homemade zines to donate money to charity.
I attended the New York Times Summer Academy for Creative Writing
I would expect to have pretty good recommendations, I have solid relationships with the teachers I’ve asked to write them.
Here’s my college list:
Ithaca College
The New School
Temple University
Emerson College
William and Mary
University of Virginia
Boston University
Vassar College
NYU
Barnard College
Thank you for reading, any input would be greatly appreciated!
What are you looking for in a school? Also what does the financial picture look like? Some of the schools will be more difficult for an out of state student, NYU is notoriously stingy with financial aid. Based on your stats, I would think Ithaca, Temple, and Emerson would be good bets. NYU, W&M, Vassar will be reaches. If your school has Naviance, you can see how students from your school have done in the admissions process.
Your numbers aren’t out of range of Muhlenberg and they have a great theater program. I guess you need to be more specific about what you want to do and what your financial situation is.
We’re from PA and my S21 is looking at film so there’s some overlap. What’s your budget? Most of the schools on your list are expensive. Are you looking for an urban campus or more remote?
Ithaca is interesting. Neat college town but small and somewhat remote. Beautiful area. I liked Temple more than I thought I would. Small campus but nice. The surrounding area is rough but improving and it’s on the main line for the subway. I think both of these would be matches. I’m pretty sure Temple would be a safety unless you have to audition for admission.
He really likes Emerson. Not much of a campus, just some high rises by the Boston Commons. Lots of theaters close to campus. Boston is a great college town. NYU is similar. Not much of a campus. You could walk by it. They’re not known for being generous with FA.
Maybe Point Park in Pittsburgh? Syracuse? Fordham?
I think you have some reaches like UVA, Vassar and NYU.
Have you talked to your parents about a budget since your April thread on this topic? If your parents can’t/won’t pay then it doesn’t matter if you can get in. Have you run the Net Price Calculators for any schools you’re interested in?
I agree with @austinmshauri. Without a budget we cannot give very useful information. Have you run the NPC on the schools that you are considering?
Also, what is your intended major? All that I see is from your other thread you say “strong arts and humanities programs”. If you are an “arts and humanities” major then you probably want to avoid taking on any debt at all. This makes the budget even more important.
You need to run the NPCs and show the results to your parents.
Apply to two from Temple, Pitt, and PSU, including their honors college.
Run thr noc on all of them and show the results to your parents.
W&M, BU, Vassar, NYU are all reaches due to selectivity.
You need more matches and safeties. Look into Lafayette, Muhlenberg, Dickinson, Fordham Lincoln, perhaps DePaul, Loyola, in Chicago?
It’s a bit premature to tell. Once you take the actual SAT and have a good idea of your budget, it’s all sort of speculation right now, which probably wouldn’t be terribly helpful at this point.
Update:
-I’m interested in majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing or Psychology. I’d like to minor in Film.
-We still haven’t locked down a budget.
