Hey, so this is for track and field, but for athletes in general: how do you know X college needs a sprinter, etc?

Do you just ask coaches or what?

You talk to the coaches. They’re always recruiting new people for pretty much everything, because there are always seniors who will be graduating.

I also suggest talking to the individual coaches/ track&field athletic directors, etc. Also, I don’t think schools have job openings, like “sprinter needed” or anything. I think they just recruit the best they can get, within a quota.

Some recruiting sites have postings by coaches that are looking for specific positions or types of athletes. But usually you have to show interest in a college, and just ask. Like anything, if you are really good, they’ll want you regardless of what or where you play. But I have known really good players who have chosen academics over athletics because their dream school did not have an opening at their position.
Most coaches will be honest whether they are recruiting, for example, high jumpers, or have several already on the team (which means most of the scholarship money goes to them; freshman get little scholarship money on average).

Could you please tell me some recruiting sites?

Ik google but a lot of the time, some sites are more active than others. (Like CC is the to go forum for college problems.)
