Thanks for reading my post. I’m new here so if this is in the wrong place, please move it to the right place
I am a 1st generation immigrant (my parents went to colleges in their native country), therefore I will appreciate advice for what colleges to apply to, and I’m hoping that you guys could help me out.
Here is some information about me:
I am a rising senior attending a highly competitive magnet high school in NJ where entire coursework is honors and AP classes with electives focused on biomedical sciences.
Current GPA weighted 5.4 ; unweighted 3.8 (my school reports weighted GPAs and does not report class rank)
SAT : 1510 - ACT 29
I will have at least 3 subject SATs - Math 1/2 & Physics
I have atleast 24 college credits transferable to many colleges
I’m an Asian female. EC’s are pretty generic… Amnesty International, softball type things. I have spent significant volunteer time with community events and with medical doctors / hospitals etc.
The social atmosphere doesn’t matter that much to me.
Any thoughts, opinions? I am happy to provide more information if needed. Thanks again!!
Academic interests? Would transferring your college credits be essential for you, or would you be willing to enter college as a typical first-year student?
Thanks for the response. I am extremely interested in Bio-Engineering / Biomedical Sciences / Pre-med program at a good college. Transferring of college credits is not that important for me.
I will like to see if can realistically get into a BS/MD program or Ivy league institutions.
These sites represent samplings more so than comprehensive analyses, but nonetheless could get you started with some school ideas:

For biomedical engineering, which – even at schools with strong bio programs – will not be universally available, you can research individual college websites. Similarly, you can screen for schools with BS/MD programs.

Oh my gosh! You’re perfect for Grinnell College. You would get a sizable FA package based on merit (few liberal arts colleges still do this) and you would be able to participate in their women in science program. There’s no application fee and no supplemental essay, so I’d say apply even if you’re remotely interested. I’m a little biased as I will go there this fall (class of 2021 wooo). I can put you in contact with my roommate (she is a science major from Texas who is also a domestic student of color) if you’d like. Another college you may consider is Colby College. They also have no application fee and no supplemental essay. Finally, you could use Allegheny college as your safety school. They have no application fee and just a short sup essay. They’re not nearly as prestigious as the other two, but they have a great science department and great internships and shadowing positions with local doctors. My uncle is a dermatologist there and has had a number of students shadow/intern in his office.
Thanks starjoy8 for the great advice. I will definitely look into Grinnell & Colby.
It looks like you may enjoy Rice University - it has a strong pre-med track and is right across the street from the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, where lots of students volunteer and participate in research as undergrads. You would need more unconventional extracurriculars for admissions, but I’d encourage you to take a look at the school and see if it appeals to you.
Srabookworm, Thanks for the advice.
Rice is a great school but it is a super reach for me.
