I have activities that I enjoy but I don’t have a title in them. I am not president or secreatary of anything. It seems that I am just a participant. But, do admission officers veiw anything as a leadership role as long as you accomplished great things?
If you’re in a group and there’s one or two officers and everyone else is a member - well I promise you not everyone is a leader.
More important that titles - what did you accomplish? Maybe you walked dogs at a shelter and helped present a few to potential adoptees. Maybe your family did meals on wheels and you brought cheer to a family. Maybe you had a part time job.
Define what you did - you will find leadership in many of your accomplishments without the “leader” title.
Be you - make an impact for the good in whatever you enjoy, and you’ll be fine.
If you are not an officer in a club at school look for leadership roles in your local community.
Do you play sports?
Both my kids coached City youth soccer
My D23 has coached U6 as an assistant coach since 9th grade
S21 coached U10 and U12 throughout HS
Coaching in the City league also counted as volunteer hours
If you don’t play sports look for other options
D23 has also tutored/mentored at local middle school
Don’t know what grade you are in but if you have a chance and not too late run for a leadership position for next year.
Do you have a passion or hobby you love and there is not a club for? Start a club at school for it.
Most schools you will just need a teacher to sponsor it.
It could be anything from Fishing to mentoring to drones to Entrepreneurship
I would say don’t worry about this. I know several kids who got into great schools, including so called “top schools,” who didn’t have a single formal leadership role but were involved in interesting service, the arts, tech, sports, and other activities. Just be you, and you will find the right fit for college.
