What courses did you take your freshman year of high school?

BQ : How many courses per year & per semester were there?

AP Human Geography
AP Environmental Science
Gifted/Talented English (No idea if this counts as honors, but I believe it does)
Honors Algebra 2
Business Technology (allowed me to get my typing speed up to mid 70 wpm)
Journalism 1
Online Required Physical Education Class

Hope you did well at the time; it looks impressive. We have to take honors prerequisites were I live to take the AP version, and the highest math one can do when they start freshman year here is Geometry/Math II. It sucks. Did you take more Journalism (2, etc.) later on? How long were APs at your school?

This is what I took:
H Geometry
Biology
World History
PE/Health
French 2
H Algebra 2
H English Lang & Lit

Chem
Geometry Hnrs
English
Spanish
Computer Programming
Engineering
Business
Gym

When did you take French 1? Were any of these classes prerequisites?

NorthwesternHPME, did you not have any Honors courses available for freshman?

Bio–>prereq to AP bio
H alg 2 and H geom–> prereq to H precalc & trig
World hist–>required
PE/Health–>required
French 2–> took french 1 in middle school
Lang & lit–> required
PE/health–>required
ulzzang–>are you a freshman/8th grader?

Physical Education I

Music Appreciation
History of Economics
Word Processing I
World History
English I
Physical Science
Algebra I

They had block scheduling, with four different one-credit classes each semester. A lot of my classes freshman year were half-credit classes (and gym was only one-fourth-credit), so there are more than eight.

There were honors classes, but I didn’t take them because I was in a different district in eighth grade and I didn’t have the prerequisites. I probably could have gotten out of them if I’d asked, but I didn’t care much about school back then.

I like how my name follows the format too. I feel like a class you took with the “–>”.
Anyways, I’m in eighth grade.

@ulzzang - I made all As through the year, though just about everyone at my school takes APES as a freshman. . Shame that J1 and the Business Tech class weren’t honors though. APs are the full year.

I’m technically in Journalism 3 now, though it is really just a mixed newspaper class. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue after this year, as while chronology would be good on a college app, 6 APs is incredibly tempting.

So, you had to take more gym-related classes? I’m confused #-o

We had to take two one-fourth-credit gym classes, one freshman year and one sophomore year.

@observeraffect they have “@” use on here now? whoa. Did the APs count as two crds?

@Halyconheather - Gym being a fourth of a credit sounds like it was terrible. Did you have to take it for a full half of the year?

@ulzzang - The @ is really more to notify who you’re talking to, but it does make threads more readable. The APs were 1 credit. I just wish that I would have gotten a five in APES (Got a 4, though most of my class did terribly, which from what I understand really angered the teacher, who has had two 2s before last year), though I did get a 5 in APHUG.

Honors English 9
Honors Geometry
Honors US History I
Honors Biology
Latin I CP
Studio Art I CP
Health (1/2 year)
Gym (1/2 year)

Four quarters a year - two semesters - 7 periods with 6 a day, one rotated out each day.

Geometry Honors
Biology Honors
Spanish 2
World History
English 9 Honors
Accounting
PE & Health/Photography 1

Since we had block scheduling, one-credit academic classes lasted for half the year, but you only took four classes every day. A half-credit class lasted for a fourth of the year, and then you’d switch to a different half-credit class in the middle of the semester. Gym worked the same as a half-credit class, except it was only worth a fourth of a credit. I’m not sure why, unless maybe it was because we had to take two gym classes (rather than just one like with the other required non-academic classes) and they wanted them to combine to make a half credit.

@JamieH - How was Accounting? And why is Health and Photography grouped with PE? Is Health and Photography a half year course or am I just confused?

@halcyonheather
That sounds terrible. I only have it for nine weeks.
@observeraffect
We have it so they count as two credits. So you can only take 4 APs a year.
