What courses should I take?? worried!

I’m from Thailand and my school offers full IB and 2 AP classes, Statistics and Calculus. I just moved here for junior year and my old school is a Thai school, meaning it doesn’t offer any courses like APs or IBs. Many college students in the states told me that I should focus on APs rather than IBs, so I chose the following classes for my junior year:

IB Bio, Psych, English (All Higher Level)
AP Statistics (Calculus is only available for seniors)
Thai Language
US History
Thailand and Southeast Asian History

I think this isn’t enough, so I’m planning on taking AP Bio, AP Psych, and AP Human Geo or another AP class that would be associated with my intended major, Psychology.

Do you think AP Bio and psych are unnecessary? What other AP test should I take in addition? Thank you! I’m really worried!

PS. Some say that colleges look for students who take the most challenging course, which in this case would be the IBs, but I’m too late to change my courses and IBs are two year courses. sooooo might as well focus on the aps i guess

Colleges look at your schedule in relation to what your school offers. You will not be penalized for not taking APs…

Yes,. You are taking IB Bio and IB Psych. Write the IB exams when the time comes.

AP Calc as a senior. Since your school offers no other AP’s, stop there and call it a day. As guineagirl said, you will not be penalized if your school offers few AP’s.

There are many other aspects of your application upon which you will need to focus, not least of which will be the essays.

Thanks! Do you think I should take the SAT subject tests?

If you are looking at the exclusive subset of colleges that require or “recommend” them (think Ivies, Georgetown, MIT, WUSTL etc.) then yes, you should take them. If you have any idea of what colleges you are looking at, you can check their websites for more information.
