i went a week or two ago, and i thought it was okay.. i don't know, it's a LOT different from northern california.. not to be mean but i've never seen so many fake tans in one place! signing up for classes was very hectic!

also, i looked up one of the teachers i got for this class on rateyourprofessors.com, and he is getting bad reviews! apparently he's disorganized and the subject matter on the tests is confusing.. what should i do, just hope for the best?

I went a a week or two ago as well. I didn't like the fact that it was two days. I was exhausted and just wanted to go home :). I signed up for classes myself, because I knew signing up with the group would be a mistake. I took my laptop and signed up at my pass time and got a pretty good schedule.

I also looked up one of my class professors (Math 3B with Putinar) and he got bad reviews, it's for Calculus, so I was hoping he had good ones. But I never go with what other people say about professors. My favorite teacher in high school was someone everyone hated :) He loved me and I got an A+, so, don't worry about the reviews. The only people doing the reviews are people who failed the class and hate the teacher (it seems like).

Wow, I didn't know you could sign up yourself! That's pretty cool.

It was really fast. Thanks, I hope maybe it won't be so bad because the subject matter sounds interesting to me.. And I think you do better in subjects you are interested in!

i go to ucsb and i am going to be a sophmore. when i went to orientation i thought it suxed too. It was too overwhelming and by the end i wanted to go home and never come back. But it gets much better. The first week of school, welcome week is extreemly overwhleming cause at this point there is no going home and you need/want to make friends that will last more than 2 days. While you are trying to make friends you are being indroudeced to IV and a new living situation. I had trouble in the begginging but really once you pass the two week in mark you will most likely be ok. As for the teachers, i have gotten lucky and experienced all good teachers but you will get a mix of everything especially being in into freshman classes. And it is a beach life style so there will be tan people fake or not, the beach is a year round event.

yea. other kids went to other orientations (UCSD) and they said it was like the best time they ever had but it turns out they didn't sign up for classes or talk about signing up for classes or anything. they just had fun for 2 days.

UCSB orientation was definitely hectic. signing up for classes was a real beast too. All the good electives were taken. I'm glad I got my core classes though because some people missed out.

And no doubt about it being different from norcal. I was just trying to repress my "hella"s.

also i was using my cellphone during the class signup and my orientation person told me to turn it off because some people can sign up for classes on their phone and it would be unfair to other students.

I thought Orientation was pretty chill. It wasn't the greatest, but I still had fun.

I was signed up for one of the later sessions, so I was worried about not getting the classes I wanted, but I still got ones that I liked.

The funny part was that students were already getting a head start on partying. I mean, seriously? It's only orientation. ;D I guess it just shows how crazy it's going to be the first weekend.
