New freshman (female) wants to know what you wished you brought to WashU, and what you wished you knew before you arrived! Thanks!

imma bump this

bring your parents and a credit card and go to Target in Brentwood Commons, like nearly every other freshman...

things that helped:
* raise your beds up - they are built so they can be lofted, the RA's helped us
* you can put chests of drawers for storage in the loft area, and some actually put seating
* since you're a girl, you may consider asking your roommate what color her comforter is, and try not to clash
* make rules upfront about what type of mess will be "allowed"

-a more comfortable desk chair

If you have a Bed, Bath & Beyond near where you live, you can shop the store there and have it all packed and ready for pickup at Brentwood Commons (right next door to Target). You'll definitely not choose everything you need, but it's really helpful to have a lot of it done without the pressure of "moving in." On the desk chair, for sure, we bought our S a very comfortable desk chair at Office Max (or Depot, I forget, sorry) right down the block from BBB and Target.

stock desk chairs are horrendous

First of all congratulations on getting in.

I have to agree, the regular desk chairs aren't that comfy. They're just common chair made of wood.

Things I wish I knew before coming here:
Pre-orientation is worth it.

Choose a few of the over 290 clubs at school. You can't do everything and you can't be everywhere.

Your floormates will be some of your closest friends but at the same time, make opportunities to meet people who you don't live with.

Bring parents and a car to take care of all your shopping. As everyone has said Brentwood Commons has Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. There's also a Wal Mart and a Home Depot close by if you need those places to.

Food here is great compared to lots of other colleges but you will get tired of it later on. The dining place is also open late in the night. Up to 3 am on weekends and it closes at 1 am on weekdays.

Get the smallest meal plan that you can get because you can always add points later on for a dollar a point rather than a dollar and seven cents when you initially buy into the program.

You don't need to bring bags of quarters because you can load your ID card with cash and use it for laundry machines and vending machines.

Thanks everyone! Anyone else have anything to add for WashU? Dorm recommendations?

Bring that blue tape you use when you're painting to put up posters with.

Do not bring any mugs or water bottles because you will be gifted with a zillion of them when you get there.

My S is in what they call L-K or the castle. It stands for Liggett-Koenig. Last year he was in Koenig, this year he's in Liggett (they're connected, really all one big building). He loves it there. Modern and they keep the common areas (which are full of leather furniture) pristine.

I live in Ruby and it's amazing. It may be a traditional dorm but I would not change it for a modern even if you gave me the chance. It's more fun, more more cohesive, and although I don't have my own bathroom, I wouldn't be happy anywhere else. But honestly, don't worry about what dorm you end up in. You'll love it either way.

Bring at least one nice outfit (suit/dress) because you'll actually probably need it. Also, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and hang out with all sorts of people. I wouldn't have met my closest friends if I hadn't gotten a little bit adventurous.
