What do counselors submit in Common App?

I just wanted to know what counselors submit for the section:
“You must invite a school Counselor who will complete the School Report and other forms for you.”
What are “School Report and other forms?”
For example, do they sent current grades (sometimes, especially at the beginning of the year, it may seem like I am failing a class b/c a teacher has entered a grade incorrectly)?
Also, should I talk to my counselors before inviting them? Thanks!

In our schools the counselor has a packet they ask students and parents to fill out so they can get to know students more than they already do to be able to write a nice recommendation.

A School Report is a description of your school, size, the type (and rigor) of courses offered, etc. It might also decribe the number of AP or Honors courses available and how much of the student body typically goes on to four-year colleges. I believe counsellors are asked to describe whether a student took the “most rigorous” classes they could. It’s basically a way to put your grades/courses in context.

A guidance counselor/school official will need to send the Secondary School Report to your colleges in which the GC will rate the rigor of your schedule and discuss any limitations set by the school/district. Often, the school will send a school profile which will outline academic requirements and limitations, AP courses offered, college matriculations, GPA by decile, and a ton of other info. Additionally, a copy of your transcript is included.

@skieurope Very helpful. Thanks for that information. If your HS does not report class rank to students, will it still be reported to colleges through the CA?

Well, I’d assume that the HS does not report class rank period; personally I’ve never seen a statement from a HS saying they only withhold rank from students, but you can always check with the GC.

You should assume, however, that if numerous students from the same HS are applying to the same college, that the college will rank those applicants even if the HS does not.

My consular have no idea about AP courses? Me also, so what can he do?

There is no expectation from any American college or university that you take AP classes and/or exams if they are not a part of your school’s curriculum. You should maximize your course rigor using the courses available to you.

But, my teachers are asked to list the AP courses that they are teaching. In my country we don’t have courses like this because all students take the same and all courses. Students can’t choose.
