What do girls wear to go out on the weekends?

I've read other posts where people say that girls get dressed up to go out on the weekends. What does that mean? How dressed up? What kind of shoes? I know these questions are trivial, but a girl needs to know!

Whoa, calm down lol. I think it depends where you're going. If you're going to a party some require you to wear different styles of dresses, especially if you in a sorority(formal, cocktail..etc). You'll know when you get there =]

...girls don't wear snow boots, do they? I'm from DC, so they winters are a lot more mild and I haven't really had to deal with lots of snow. I can't imagine that girls would want to wear Uggs when it's all snowy and slushy, regardless of how warm they keep one's feet, because they'd gross and dirty. But I can't really see them wanting to wear big snow boots either. What's the solution--both for going out and for walking to class? I was thinking of getting equestrian-style boots to wear as an alternative. What do most girls do?

Wow, please don't bring your Uggs, because I, and every other guy on the face of the Earth, HATE them!!!!

im from the dc area too. while walking around campus, girls do wear their uggs. yea, they are practical during our dc winters, but they really arent up here since ithaca is a lot slushier. get a good pair of snow boots. bring up your uggs though. they are good for when it is dry and cold.

for parties, we tough it out and wear our heels...or we carry an extra pair of "walking shoes" in a large bag.

They wear nothing. Absolutely nothing.

You'll soon notice the party dress trends...fear not

My advice to all incoming froshies (mostly for the ladies): what you wear to a party is NOT what you should wear to class...nobody wants to see your "attributes" :-)

Get equestrian boots! Such a smart choice. You will be my hero. I want to see Uggs banned from campus. I've said this multiple times, but a good pair of waterproof leather boots looks chic and works well for the winter.

Ravesky is right--what people wear depends on the event. House parties are similar to ones in high school; no need to dress up or go all out. Of course, girls still like to look good, no matter what the event. ;) For crush parties and going out to the bars, girls dress up a little more (casual dresses, nice tops, etc.) Formals are self-explanatory. You'll see heels and cute flats at all parties.

All of this sounds obvious--and it is. You really don't need to worry. As the others before me have said, it's easy to catch on.

Thanks for the advice - I know it's a stupid question which is why I asked it in a stupid way haha. It sounds like girls (when they are not wearing snow boots/uggs/equestrian boots) wears heels or flats and normal weekend going out clothes when it's a normal weekend. I guess that would be pretty obvious! Since Cornell Days are next weekend - I was thinking about the short term - but it sounds like there's nothing to worry about!

but you will hear that there are serious consequences if you are found at a party, so dont think youll be able to experience the party scene on this trip

is it really cold?? a winter for how many months?

It's usually "winter weather" from November to March, but NY has been known to have a May blizzard or two.

Winter isn't as cold as people make it out to be. Sure, we get a few bitterly cold days but for the most part it's usually over 0 F.

I'd say it's rarely even below 10F. Coldest period is around January, which is frequently in the teens. You won't even have to experience the worst weather, unless you're like me and live close to school. Sub-zero windchills aren't uncommon, but absolute temps won't go under zero that often, maybe two or three days. By the end of January it'll already warm back up to 20s and 30s, and in March it'll occasionally hit 40s.
