So I plan on rooming with a friend next year.
I was in a a big group but the suites we tried for were no longer available so we decided to split up into doubles in the same building.
I was originally going to room with Friend A, and Friend B was going to room with Friend C. But recently Friend B came out and said that they wouldn’t be happy rooming with Friend C, so I agreed to room with them and Friend A agreed to room with Friend C.
Here’s the problem: Now Friend A is worried about rooming with Friend C because they won’t be able to be themselves and I’m worried about rooming with Friend B because they’re oversensitive and won’t ever leave the room.
Both the person I was originally going to room with and I are afraid to voice our opinions and say that we want to go back to the original setup. On top of that we don’t want to leave Friend B to room with someone they’ll definitely have a miserable year with and we don’t want to just kick Friend C to the curb.
I sort of expected problems to come up over dorming with friends but not this early, it’s not even the start of the next year!
Anyone got a suggestion on how to handle?
I think you both need to have an honest conversation with the friends that you no longer want to room with. It’s part of navigating life. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable.
I’d say each of you should be upfront with the person you have now agreed to room with about your concerns. See if you can work out ground rules to get around the problems. Do it now so it is aired and decisions can be made.
Referring to potential roommates as Friend A, Friend B & Friend C suggests that I am going to be graded on my answer, and I am just not up to taking a test now. :))
This is a lot of speculation. Be mature adults. Is there a problem yet? Seems to me you are all ganging up on one person. Give it a chance. If it doesn’t work out, oh well. There are sooooo many kids that don’t have a dream roommate situation. There are sooooo many kids who find roommates on a facebook page or whatever and end up hating each other. It’s actually better to live with a person who isn’t your best friend. It can even be good to live with someone you don’t really care for. This was my daughter’s situation, and she now looks at the bright side, because it made her want to get out of her room and meet other people. At this point, I feel sorry for friend C.
I think you should get on a wait list for the 4 person suites.
Last combo possible: you room with Friend C and Friend A rooms with Friend B?
