What do I do with the scholarship check?

I'm so sorry for the incredibly dumb question, but my mom doesn't know anything about the college process or the money involved.

I won a scholarship for $500, and I received a check for it. It says it is void in 90 days from date of issue... so what do I do? Do I take it to the bank and put it in a bank account, since it apparently can't just sit out?

Thank you so much, it is truly appreciated.

Is the check made out to you? If so, it sounds like you’re supposed to deposit it since it will be void in 90 days.

Otherwise, if it’s not made out to you, take it to your school’s financial aid and awards office. Even if you’ve paid your tuition already, it should roll over to the next semester/year.

^^^

Oh, I thought the student was still in high school…which is why he can’t “wait it out.”

Thank you both! It is made out to me so I’ll check it in as soon as I can. (:

And yes I am still in high school - that’s just what it says on the check.

Just deposit the check. I think it’s just a prize money.

Are you a senior? If so, you should talk to your school GC about colleges ASAP.
