Well, I'm an incoming freshman college student. I've been participating in this summer dental program. One of the instructors of the program gave us advice about college. She said that she would highly discourage not majoring biology unless you double major with biology and another subject. I had wanted to major in business or economics in order to learn the skills it takes to run a dental practice. What should I do? Should I just major in biology or should I double major in biology and another subject? Also, if I were to double major, would you suggest doing business or economics? Lastly, do you think it would be hard to double major with biology and another subject?

Hi FlyEagle17

I think you should major in the subject that you enjoy the most and take as many biology/science courses as you can to prepare for DAT. Of course you will need the prerequisite classes such as bio, gen chem, organic chem, genetics, etc. In my opinion, as a dentist for 25 years, the business skills you need will likely not be found in college economics courses. Honestly, the business part can be learned and is instinctive. Take classes you enjoy and do well in them. Gaining acceptance is dependent upon GPA, Science GPA, DAT and exposure to dentistry. Best of Luck!

Bump!!!

I figured out what I’m going to do. Thanks for the advice 145bluz.
