Right now I'm at a community college, but after this I would like to transfer into a medical school. Propbably NYU or Columbia. but i want to make sure to take the right classes before that so what classes should i take?
And at what level should my gpa a be at to be able to transfer into pre-med or med school at NYU or Columbia?
any insight is appreciated.

You can’t transfer into medical school unless you are in medical school, and even then it’s pretty impossible. Your GPA should be as high as possible, 3.8+. Transferring to an Ivy League is probably almost as hard as transferring from medical school to medical school, if not harder. You would probably be best asking the NYU and Columbia forums individually, but I can only assume that you would need a SAT/ACT score similar to that of kids that attend. So if you didn’t get a 2100+ you probably don’t have a shot at Columbia regardless of your GPA. I’m not too well read on the subject so like I said go to their forums.

Try to avoid taking chemistry, biology, or physics while at CC. Other than that, focus on taking classes that will fulfill credit at your university of choice, assuming they accept CC credit transfer.

One word can describe this thread: “LOL”.

Just wondering, why should he avoid “Try to avoid taking chemistry, biology, or physics while at CC. Other than that, focus on taking classes that will fulfill credit at your university of choice, assuming they accept CC credit transfer.”?

-By the way, just transfer into a college now, then apply to med school. You dont really do 2 years then med school, you usually do 4 of college then med school.

Because medical schools do not like CC credit in the pre-reqs. They want as accurate a description of your ability to perform in medical medical school as they can get from those courses.

Well i already am taking Bio 2, and general chem… is that bad? and my degree from CC will be an A.S. and I’m volunteering at a hospital. I did look into it and chances are very minimum even thought my GPA is high =/ because of SAT/ACT. What are my chances for Stony Brook? And when should the MCAT be taken?

Stony brook for what?

Signature…

Are you an international?

Do you have the budget for NYU for undergrad? If not, go to a SUNY.

I don’t know if Columbia takes very many transfers.

Yes I am also looking at SUNY schools. to me Stony-brook looks like the best option because i don’t want to live in upstate. and definitely applying to all four year CUNY.

Thank you for your response it really set me towards the right type of planning.
