What do you guys think are my chances of getting into UPenn. I would like to go to Wharton but understanding that is harder I will probably love to go to the Management and Technology program; considering the fact that I will like to major in computer engineering, minor in finance, and get an MBA. What would be the best course of action for me to strengthen my resume and chances of acceptance into UPenn. Also I will be EDing, if that makes a big difference.

What year are you? And you haven’t taken any standardized tests yet? That’s a big if unless you did very well on the PSAT.

Your ECs are very academic. I don’t see much business or management.

Like I said in the post I will be taking them in January, ad re-taking them until I get the score I desire. I am just now completing my first semester of my junior year. What course of action do you think I should take. I want to eventually earn an MBA but will probably apply to engineering school for a comp sci major and financial minor. What can I do to improve my ECs for Wharton? I know FBLA will be big and I thought leading and doing well in Model UN and also starting a Debate Club would also be big. Anyways with what I have stated above do you think I have a decent chance of admission into UPEnn.

Your best bet is to develop sincere Leadership roles in your extracurriculars and academic setting. Wharton doesn’t need business extracurriculars. Wharton wants students who will be Leaders. If you can convey this attribute, then you’ll have a good chance.

So with all my other stats and scores taken into account if I can show leadership I will have a good change? Also what about my chances of getting into engineering school given my resumé.

I’m confused by your post. You say you want to get into Wharton, to study engineering? Wharton in a business school. Then you say, “I want to eventually earn an MBA but will probably apply to engineering school …What can I do to improve my ECs for Wharton?”.

If you are wanting to apply engineering school, as an undergraduate, Penn is okay but there are better schools. If you are talking about ECs for when you apply to Wharton for your MBA-your high school ECs really don’t matter. Business school’s care about (it does vary from school to school): work experience, management potential, leadership, etc. as well as grades, test scores and recommendations -you will have to have a lot more to offer than stuff from high school.

Trustfully, no school for undergraduate puts ECs ahead of gpa and test scores. That is not to say they don’t help - not participating in anything will definitely hurt. Someone who has a tenth or two of a lower gpa but was captain of the football team would often be more appealing than someone who had that additional tenth but no involvement. They will want to see some involvement and some leadership.
