an art class and 3 other classes

my school works on an A-day/B-day block schedule so we take all eight classes all year long - finals usually hurt my year grade

ECs- Varsity Tennis, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Junior Class Council, National Society of Black Engineers, HOSA(won 1st place in sports medicine regional competition, 3rd place in state competition), Unity Club, Outward Bound alum, athletic trainer, Junior Marshal (reserved for top 5% of class), National Honor Society, founder of Campus Greens chapter at my school (organization associated with the Green Political Party), Spanish Honor Society, Muslim Student Association (I am not a Muslim but I like helping the Muslim members of my community, especially here in the south) – I am obviously not active in all of these right now - this is a list of the clubs that I have joined and been active in over the past 3 years

hoping to go into urban planning/revitalization and so i'd be applying to Mcgill's Urban systems program in their geography department

bumpetybump

I got in and your stats look a helluvalot better than mine...

I'm not sure about the SATs though. Do you have SAT IIs? And I have no idea what's going on with the new SAT thing... sorry. My book says that standardized test scores is a "very important factor", but also that "high SAT I and II scores just dont have the same clout across the border". So I really don't know.

Your ECs beat the crap out of mine... but I don't think McGill really looks at those (this is according to my little "The Best 357 Colleges" book). :/

McGill doesn't focus on extracurriculars or anything like that. i got in, your grades were better than mine, my sats were higher though, although an admissions officer i talked to said mine were way over what they needed to be, so you look good. If you are considering the Ivies (or anywhere in the Northeast, really), I'd definitely apply, because they have so many applicants, being validictorian with top-notch SATs isn't enough anymore, and they would rather "build-a-class", and these Northeastern schools do not get many applicants from the South. A Harvard admissions officer described it to me- she said that they narrow it down to a group of people that they think can do the work, and then they pick out who they do want based on extra stuff. Harvards really into diversity so they want people from all over the country, not just kids from the Northeast. Your minority status would certainly help too. College admissions time made me kind of wish I still lived in Alabama. lol. Good luck with wherever you decide to apply, you pack a really complete package, which I think colleges will find very attractive. (and my opinions on what makes a good package comes from my professor and admissions officer friends... my family seems to like those involved with education lol) oh and to answer your question, my guess is you have a good shot at mcgill.

thanks to u all...especially the last post that was awesome. I hope my chances are as good as you say they are. What has your time at Mcgill been like?
